This position will serve as the Sr. Nutritionist Program Manager for Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oneida County's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-ED) and Eat Well Play Hard (EWPH) in Child Care Settings programs. The individual will provide direction, organization, coordination, and management of both programs. The Sr. Nutritionist Program Manager will coordinate all administrative aspects of the SNAP-ED and EWPH Program and will assist with marketing efforts for SNAP-ED programming, to include the environmental change initiative in collaboration with other SNAP-ED Central Region Program and EWPH Nutritionists.
On occasion, the individual will teach SNAP-ED and EWPH from a menu of existing SNAP-ED educational programs and program activities. This position will implement already-existing educational programming, including occasional creation of lesson plans based on established program knowledge, to the public to improve healthy food and lifestyle choices among low-income families and individuals encompassing all age groups. This position will be responsible for the delivery of established SNAP-ED programming to community groups and will deliver other established SNAP-ED programming and activities, both on-site and off-site, in the community, in accordance with the Nutrition Program Area's Plan of Work.
The individual will supervise 5 educators and will provide supervision of 3 additional SNAP-ED Nutritionists in the absence of the other Sr. Nutritionist.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition or Public Health plus experience relevant to the role of the position.
- Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
- Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
- Ability to communicate with adults and youth of diverse educational and cultural backgrounds
- Ability to communicate effectively through oral, written, and visual channels using traditional educational tools as well as electronic technology (e.g., video, audio, computers, etc.).
- Ability to function as a team member working with volunteers and staff.
- Ability to organize reference materials for programming purposes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Registered Dietitian as registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)
- Familiarity with purchasing and preparing foods, utilizing business expense accounts and pragmatic use of resources.
- Familiarity with reviewing and following recipes and assure compliance to federal and state guidelines.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize program resources within the general community.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, teach and evaluate informal educational programs through a variety of delivery methods to reach individuals and groups.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize computer technologies for educational and communication purposes.
Position Responsibilities & Essential Functions
Program Delivery - 25%
- Apply subject matter knowledge to create innovative lesson plans for SNAP Ed.
- Teach innovative nutrition programs with discretion in accordance with the established Plan of Work.
- Utilize established program resources and materials in program work.
- Occasionally teach existing SNAP-Ed and EWPH education program as designed to community groups, qualified schools and childcare centers, food pantries, Department of Social Services (DSS), etc.
- Assist in providing existing information to bring awareness to the public in the form of impact statements, articles for progress/annual reports, and news releases, etc.
- Apply established subject matter knowledge to create lesson plans to meet program objectives.
- Under the direction and oversight of the Issue Leader, adapt already established curriculum and materials as needed to meet established program objectives.
- Provide SNAP-ED educational programs via media outlets and digital content.
- Work to foster acceptance of the SNAP-ED Program, methods and policies while addressing community and individual needs and considering diverse audiences.
- Assist Issue Leader in multi-association team efforts through joint planning and implementation of multi-disciplinary programs and program activities to deliver the SNAP-ED Program.
- Serve as a subject-matter resource in the area of Nutrition to staff and participants, community organizations and the general public.
- Serve as a team member and cooperate with the entire Association and Nutrition Program staff to achieve Association delivery goals.
Program Evaluation - 5%
- Implement program evaluation as designed.
- Interact with program participants to obtain evaluation data, to include: evaluating effectiveness of classes and instructors within program areas for all SNAP-ED programs.
- Assist supervisor in the process of analyzing program data, and based on that analysis, assist in making recommendations for improvements in program offerings.
- Communicate evaluation findings to constituents as appropriate.
Administrative Direction - 25%
- Plan the structure of delivering educational programs to meet the needs of the community.
- Provide input into the planning of all programs to consider the needs of diverse program participants.
- Assist in the planning of major public events and programs including, but not limited to: assisting with media efforts related to upcoming events and programs.
- Identify activities and resources necessary to implement initiatives and projects.
- Anticipate and project SNAP Ed and EWPH program expenses.
- Plan the delivery of established educational program goals.
- Plan the structure of delivering educational programs via various methods.
- Propose EWPH budget based on established financial guidelines and procedures.
- Make recommendations and influence the staffing plan development process.
- Strategize ways to expand Nutrition Program networks.
- Assist in developing relationships with appropriate agencies, organizations, and community leaders keeping them informed of Extension's goals, efforts and impacts.
Administrative Management - 35%
- Oversee EWPH budget and coordinate with fiscal and Issue Team Leader to ensure program and fiscal integrity.
- Review and assist in the preparation of EWPH program expenses for inclusion in monthly reimbursement based vouchers.
- Serve as the liaison with EWPH contract management staff at NYS Department of Health.
- Assist in identifying SNAP Ed and EWPH program needs (i.e. program supplies and materials) to the Issue Leader.
- Provide supervision and oversight to SNAP-ED and EWPH Educators.
- Solve problems and resolve conflicts that arise within the SNAP-ED and EWPH Program, utilizing appropriate policies and procedures.
- Provide programmatic guidance to staff and volunteers.
Administrative Coordination/Operation - 5%
- Organize and coordinate program activities related to SNAP-ED and EWPH programming (i.e. food demonstrations, direct lessons to adults and youth, etc).
- Coordinate identified administrative aspects of the SNAP-ED Program to include, but not limited to: preparing correspondence, maintaining files, etc.
- Coordinate, compile and organize existing program resources and program materials.
- Effectively maintain existing professional relationships with other agencies, organizations and businesses that promote effective communication and facilitate continued programming efforts.
- Assist in utilizing effective marketing strategies in the promotion of the SNAP-ED and EWPH programming efforts to include, but not limited to: print media, news media, social media, multi-media efforts and the environmental change initiative in collaboration with other Nutritionists in the Central Region area.
- Utilize existing program materials to recruit adult and youth participants to the SNAP-ED Program. Materials will be distributed throughout the community at places to include, but not limited to, grocery stores, housing complexes, and DSS.
- This position may require the transport of program materials and resources in performing position responsibilities.
- Assist in the promotion of major public events and programs including, but not limited to: assisting with mass media efforts related to upcoming events and programs.
Professional Improvement & Other Duties as Assigned - 5%
- In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes in programming and association priorities.
- Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Extension programs and other duties as assigned.

Position Details
This is a full time exempt position, 100% FTE. The annual salary for this position is $53,500.00. Excellent benefits, based on eligibility, including:
