General Purpose of PositionBringing Theory to Practice (BT2P) is a national initiative, hosted at Elon University, that works to renew and improve higher education through innovation, advocacy, and movement-building. We believe that undergraduate education should be grounded in the core purposes of active learning, community and civic engagement, meaningful preparation for work, and the well-being of the whole person. We believe that all students deserve such an education, whatever their background or area of study. And we believe that this commitment to equitable, holistic, engaged learning requires change in higher education. BT2P puts a special priority on projects that advance change through networked collaboration among different institutions, academic sectors, and public partners. BT2P seeks a Chief Storyteller for the Paradigm Project, a multi-year initiative that will form the core of BT2Ps future programming. The project aims to support systemic change in undergraduate education through integrative design, movement-building, and public narrative shift. BT2P has launched the initial phase of the Paradigm Project (through May 2025), part of a projected seven-year plan that will include public outreach, the creation and support of design teams and support networks, and advocacy with educational decision-makers.The Chief Storyteller will advance the Paradigm Project by overseeing communication strategy, public messaging, and storytelling that work to deepen the public narrative about higher education. Working with project partners and BT2P staff, they will publicize the goals and values of the project and amplify models of positive change to academic, professional, and public audiences. The Chief Storyteller will oversee the creation of content for the BT2P Newsletter, biweekly 'Bringing It' emails, social media, and the BT2P website. At the same time, they will be encouraged to creatively re-imagine BT2Ps current communications, including the development of new platforms for advancing the Paradigm Project.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Develop and collaboratively guide communication strategies to amplify the values and goals of the Paradigm Project among diverse audiences within and outside of higher education.
- Communicate stories of compelling and inspiring examples and visions of change in higher education.
- Utilize communication to build support and networks for positive change.
- Engage higher education leaders, policy-makers, and the foundation/philanthropic sector in advocacy campaigns on behalf of holistic education.
- Create editorial and media content, and support staff, interns, and project partners in the creation of editorial and media content, for specialist and non-specialist audiences.
- Develop content and reimagine formats for BT2P communication platforms to amplify the Paradigm Project.
- Other duties as needed.
Education and Experience - Graduate degree in a relevant field desirable. BA required.
- Interest in higher education issues and commitment to creating change in educational policies, practices, and cultures.
- Background in academic, nonprofit, or social change organizations welcomed.
- Experience in developing communication strategies for and with academic, professional, and public audiences.
- Capacity to write eloquently and persuasively about higher education.
- Skill in creating compelling stories using multiple forms of media.
- Editing skills for publications in written and online platforms.
- Experience in project management.
- Capacity for relationship-building and collaboration within and beyond BT2P.
- Demonstrated commitment to creating environments that advance diversity, equity, and inclusion.
