The Highlights In accordance with the mission of the Department of Athletics, this position serves as Associate Athletics Director, Athletics Communications & Digital Strategy for the department of Intercollegiate Athletics within the guidelines of the NCAA, the BIG EAST Conference and DePaul University. Position shall be committed to sharing the stories of diverse cultures, backgrounds, and experiences of DePaul student-athletes both on and off the field. This position serves on the VP/Director of Athletics' senior leadership and as sport administrator for assigned programs.
Is This You? - Manage all aspects of the Athletic Department's Communications & Digital Strategy Division, which includes the following functions: media relations, PR, television and digital streaming, social media, video operations, photography, website and app management. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Providing accountability and goal setting for Communication staff to ensure consistent communication, innovative content, and engaging storytelling
- Producing digital media guides/webpages, game notes, news releases, and feature stories
- Generating feature content, video and other unique coverage for DePaulBlueDemons.com, the official website of DePaul Athletics
- Responding to media requests
- Staffing home and select away and postseason events
- Supervising statistical crews, the men's basketball table crew, and other event support personnel
- Participation in the creative working groups for all social media efforts
- Compiling statistics, researching historical records for DePaul Athletics' publications
- Serving as a member of the DePaul Athletics Hall of Fame Committee, coordinating all historical records and statistical information
- Serve as the primary media contact and digital content strategist for the DePaul men's basketball and men's golf programs. This includes writing and distributing press releases, website maintenance, statistical record-keeping, fielding media requests, managing social media content, developing innovating and engaging storytelling opportunities, and promoting awareness of the program to the local and national media outlets.
- Serve as liaison with and official spokesperson for local and national media regarding all Athletic Department matters. Foster a professional relationship and communicate with media members on a regular basis to promote greater awareness of DePaul Athletics locally and nationally.
- Serve on the senior leadership team which involves strategic planning for the department, representing the department at athletics events, fundraising, game management duties, and other administrative functions.
- Knowledge of and adherence to all NCAA rules, policies and procedures pertaining to the communications and media relations function of the department. Attend and participate in monthly NCAA rules compliance meetings.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Your Education & Experience - Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or related field required, advanced degree preferred.
- Five to ten years of related experience in communications and media relations, preferably at the professional or NCAA Division I level.
Required Certifications/Licenses - Driver's license preferred
Managerial Responsibilities - Supervises 2 full-time communications staff members, 2 to 3 communications graduate assistants, and 15 to 20 student workers, interns, and/or part-time communications and/or video production staff. Supervision included scheduling, training, consistent evaluation, and payroll.
Financial Responsibilities - Oversee and maintain budgets for communications department.
Other Skills & Abilities Required - Experience with the Adobe Suite (including Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator), Microsoft Office Suite, and StatCrew/Genius preferred.
- Strong communication, writing, editing, and social media skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience in working in a diverse urban and/or intercollegiate athletics environment.
- Dedication to serving the department, the University and the student-athletes with the highest level of leadership, initiative, and integrity.
- A working knowledge of NCAA, BIG EAST Conference, and University rules and regulations as they apply to intercollegiate athletics.
Additional Information - Position requires working evenings, weekend hours, and select holidays during the school year.
- Attendance is required at all home men's basketball games.
- Travel with the men's basketball program to all away and postseason competitions is required.
- Occasional other travel may be required.
