In partnering with the Managing Director of Public Affairs, the Associate Director for Arts Communications amplifies NYUs extensive arts enterprise by consulting with university leaders on the strategy, content, and outreach for arts communications across the Office of Public Affairs. This role also provides key guidance for priorities to OPA's press officers, multimedia storytelling team, central social media team, and print publications team. The Associate Director also serves as senior public relations and communications officer for the Tisch School of the Arts, the Steinhardt Schools departments of Music and Performing Arts and Art and Arts Professions, the Center for Ballet and the Arts, the Division of Libraries, the Kimmel and Gallatin Galleries, and related provostial initiatives. For arts communications for those schools and departments, and in a leadership role for press officers, the Associate Director guides campaigns and initiatives, manages media requests, pitches to both internal and external outlets, creates content for university platforms, and provides faculty and administrative clients with ongoing media training. The Associate Director also provides leadership support to the managing director for the general administration and management of the OPA public affairs team.
Required Education: Bachelor's Degree
Preferred Education: Master's Degree
Required Experience: 5+ years news writing or public relations experience or equivalent combination
Preferred Experience: 5+ years news writing or public relations experience in an academic, journalistic, and/or arts environment
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Excellent presentation, networking, and verbal/written communications skills. Creative problem-solver. Ability to plan and manage multiple special events and projects. Ability to effectively manage and build relationships and to work independently and in teams. Knowledge of a wide range of communications media.
