Job Description:
Brown University Athletics is seeking candidates for the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications  position. This role will assist the Associate Director of Athletics, Strategic Communications and Content Creation in the day-to-day operations and all public relations, communications and media efforts for Brownâ™s 34 varsity programs.
The successful candidate must be highly organized and driven with exceptional multi-tasking and communication skills. The candidate must have strong knowledge of social media platforms as well as outstanding writing and public relations skills and the ability to produce various communication materials written, social media, multimedia, etc.) and maintain frequent communication with coaches, student-athletes, media, alumni, parents and donors.
Job duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Responsible for all communications-related activities for assigned sports, including but not limited to general stories, game stories, press releases, statistics, box scores, game notes, press conferences, printed and virtual informational resources, media appearances/interviews.
Serve as an informational resource to all media sources (ESPN+, Linear TV, print, radio, news media, etc.),
Ensure daily accurate and up-to-date information for assigned programs on BrownBears.com, departmental and team social media accounts, and various other communications outlets.
Ensure timely and accurate content updates (game stories, statistics, player/coach/staff biographies, video, etc.) for all sports in area of responsibility.
This position may hire, supervise and train event (professional and student) staff.
Entry into the candidate pool requires the following:
Bachelors degree, preferably in Journalism, Communications, Marketing or other related disciplines
2-3 years experience in communications/marketing/journalism in collegiate athletics or related industries
Demonstrated experience in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Adobe Creative Suite InDesign/Photoshop), Statistical Software (StatCrew, Genius Sports and NCAA Live Stats), Website content management systems (preferably SIDEARM), a basic knowledge of various social media platforms (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook), and familiarity with both MAC and PC platforms.
The successful candidate must possess and demonstrate the following:
Strong command of the English language and editing skills.
General knowledge of NCAA, Ivy League and ECAC rules and regulation.
Strong understanding of collegiate athletics with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication & computer skills, necessary.
In-depth knowledge of a wide range of sports and their technical aspects.
Demonstrated ability to work with and relate well to students.
Demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment.
Strong organizational skills and ability to balance multiple projects at once, while meeting established deadlines.
Strong work ethic, passion for the profession and commitment to student-athletes
Willing to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
Strategic, innovative and creative thinker, and ability to work independently.
The successful candidate for this position will be required to complete a criminal background and DMV check satisfactory to Brown University prior to commencing employment.
