Reporting to the Vice President of Marketing and Communications, the Director of Communications is responsible for collaborating on the development and implementation of a comprehensive external and internal communications program with initiatives that advance the reputation and the strategic plan of the university. This position will be responsible for the creation of content that promotes the Regis College brand to internal and external stakeholders utilizing key messaging points and compelling storytelling.
Assist the Vice President of Marketing and Communications and the Senior Director of Marketing and Digital Strategies in the implementation of the department’s strategic plan.
Ensure communication and marketing initiatives are implemented in alignment with the university’s strategic plan; act as a leader in moving the communication strategy forward.
Create engaging content that reflects events happening at the university and highlights key differentiators to be shared on a variety of communications platforms.
Provide strategic direction for the university’s primary Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn accounts utilizing the department’s content calendar.
Build relationships and maintain regular contact with reporters and editors at local and national media outlets, blogs, and trade publications.
Create a plan to pitch the president, senior leadership, faculty, and staff to local and national media; stay abreast of current events in the news to position Regis as source for expert analysis and opinion in relevant fields.
Research and write compelling stories about students, faculty, staff, and alumni; build relationships with various internal departments and staff members to generate story ideas.
Generate press releases and respond to media inquiries as needed; serve as a key member of the response team to handle crisis communications.
Work closely with various communication staff including admission, institutional advancement, and athletics to ensure consistent messaging and brand integrity.
Lead the university-wide Communications Committee.
Mentor and develop staff/student workers while promoting a culture of high performance.
Occasional night and weekend hours depending on university event schedule.
Minimum of bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, English, or related major with professional experience in journalism, public relations, communications, or related fields; higher education experience a plus.
Experience with pitching stories and securing media placements across a number of mediums.
Strong writing, editing, storytelling, and oral presentation skills.
Experience writing for websites and social media required. Understanding of best practices in graphic design and website editing a plus.
Experience in the utilization of new online tools, social media platforms and technologies.
Excellent time and project management skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
Ability to uphold the university’s commitment to inclusive excellence in a diverse educational community.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
Experienced hands-on contributor and collaborator who can multitask and work well with colleagues.
