Maryville College is searching for an Athletic Communications Assistant. This position assists with the coordination and dissemination of information concerning the athletics program. Must be passionate about recording and sharing Maryville College’s athletic history.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The individual filling this full-time, 12-month position will be a member of the department's athletic multimedia communications staff and report to the Assistant Athletics Director for Communications. A successful candidate demonstrates a strong work ethic, high level of integrity and honesty. Candidates must have the ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, must be attentive to detail and accurate in record keeping and possess an ability to work with a diverse constituency including student-athletes, parents, coaches, faculty, staff administrators and outside contacts.
Responsibilities include:
- Serve as a primary statistical coordinator in-game and historical for football, volleyball, basketball, baseball, soccer, and softball
- Produce game notes, news releases, feature stories, graphics, and social media content
- Generate feature content, video and other unique coverage for MCScots.com, the official website of Maryville College Athletics as well as social media on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube.
- Write postgame summaries for the department website and social media channels.
- Utilize a graphics software that promotes the daily events and schedule of all 14 sport programs. Additional graphics to be created via InDesign/Photoshop as needed.
- Arrange photography services for home athletic contests and special events, while maintaining the archive of images.
- Respond to media requests
- Staff home and selected USA South /NCAA tournament events; Supervise statistical crews and other event support personnel
- Facilitate Maryville’s social media outlets daily
- Design day-of-game social media previews for all in-season sports.
- Compile statistics, research historical records for Maryville College department of athletics publications, Wall of Fame inductions and JD Davis awards.
- Aid in the development and implementation of the Scots Broadcasting Network in Live Video Event Productions, a weekly department video, and Static Video Post-Event Interviews
- Assist with the College communications and marketing initiates to elevate fundraising, revenue generation and sponsorship sales.
- Facilitate promotions and marketing events
- Develop effective relationships with all local media
- Distribute stats, accolades and accomplishments to hometown newspapers
- Promote special events or service projects involving athletic contests and teams
- Provide photography services and maintain the archive of images
- Nominate student-athletes, coaches and athletics staff for recognition and awards
- Maintain end-of-year reports for multiple sports while assisting the Assistant Athletics Director for Communications with implementing a sports marketing program
- Maintain membership in CoSIDA and TSWA
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Assists in the supervision of student assistants, student workers, volunteers, and interns. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training student employees, volunteers and interns; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance.
Education and/ Experience:
Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in a collegiate or professional media relations environment; outstanding oral and written communications skills; demonstrated organizational skills; and working knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop, Microsoft Word and The Automated Scorebook. Knowledge and application of StatCrew and NCAA Genius (when available) in Volleyball, Soccer, Basketball, Football, Baseball, Softball, Tennis, and Golf required.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills:
Advanced computer skills required.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
A valid Tennessee Driver’s license is required.
