Position Description: Responsible for the day-to-day management of internal and external communications, including the process of obtaining rich content to develop and edit materials that support our properties and corporate initiatives.
Focus area of this position also includes national and trade media relations, development public relations support, strategy development, support for global initiatives and public affairs.
Essential Job Functions:
Writer
- Craft focused messaging intended for all stakeholder audiences including witty social media messaging as well as business-focused corporate news releases and white papers.
- Curate messages, milestones and key information that will be essential to the development of marketing messages, scripts, talking points and other written materials.
- Develop monthly content for employee newsletter and green screens across portfolio.
- Research and package content from internal and external resources to develop insightful and engaging company and brand narratives.
- Interface with executives at retail and other partner companies as required on key communications projects.
- Work cross-functionally with Macerich corporate communications and external partners, corporate marketing and design teams as editor on following projects: annual report, corporate responsibility report, presentations, RFPs, leasing packages, Internal MacChat emails, MacCentral Employee Intranet, and other projects as assigned.
- Ensure branding standards/corporate language are consistent and maintained across writing assignments.
- Proof content/presentations generated from the Marketing Department for grammar, spelling before sending to outside groups. Also act as overall proof/grammar support for all BD, BtoC, BtoB, social and property-level communication pieces.
- All other duties as assigned.
Public Relations
- Participate in the creation and implementation of public relations initiatives that support the field, company-wide initiatives, as well as development pipeline.
- Liaison to the field to edit and secure approvals for local media releases and assist with development and release of local releases as needed.
- Assist social media department efforts (writes posts for social media channels and news releases, monitors activity, encourages dynamic discussions, etc.).
- Participate in the building of media strategy for key projects, including the development of media events, major announcements, pitching calendars and story ideas.
- Work with AVP, Corp Comm to foster solid media relationships by pitching/arranging meetings with reporters, attending roundtable sessions and interviews and pursuing added-value partnerships with key media outlets.
- Work with AVP, Corp Comm to issue crisis management communications, developing key messages, Q&A, media protocol and training.
- Update and maintain corporate/property media lists.
- All other duties as assigned.
Team Player
- Support the overall Macerich marketing department with what is needed, sometime stepping out of discipline in order to get the job done well.
- Interface and collaborate with external Corp. Comm / Marketing resources.
- Advise and mentor administrative and office assistant.
- Participate in volunteer events to promote goodwill toward the company.
- All other duties as assigned.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, or other related field preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, written, and verbal.
- Multi-dimensional wordsmith comfortable with crafting focused messaging intended for all stakeholder audiences, including witty social media messaging, corporate news releases and white papers.
- 5+ years of content creation and editing experience (web content, media advisories, blogs, campaigns, social media, white papers) that aligns with AP Style.
- Ability to succinctly write creative copy using a variety of tones.
- Exceptional attention to detail to ensure all content aligns with internal style guide.
- Self-starter, highly motivated to succeed under minimal supervision.
- Demonstration of exemplary organizational skills.
- A forward-thinking team player and project manager who works collaboratively on a dispersed, multi-disciplinary team to manage and balance a variety of communication requests, coordinate schedules, and meet tight deadlines.
- Experience with media relationships and outreach.
- Knowledge in retail real estate industry a plus.
