As the Athletics Media Relations Director for the College of Saint Benedict, you are passionate about Division III athletics and the positive impact on individual leadership development and growth of student-athletes—on and off the courts and playing fields. You oversee a comprehensive public relations program and serve as the primary media contact for the college’s NCAA Division III sports; you leverage the CSB brand and experience to assist with recruiting and retaining student-athletes and elevate and promote the brand around the state and region.
Oversee the creation and distribution of all athletics news releases and game statistics reporting to meet NCAA, MIAC and CSB requirements and expectations.
Partner with designers, writers and digital marketing colleagues to create and execute athletics content across platforms and channels—email, web, social, print, fundraising solicitations and environmental graphics and signage—including gobennies.com and athletics social media channels.
Staff home intercollegiate athletic events; supervise student employees and coordinate the dissemination of results; oversee statistics for all home events (12 varsity sports); coordinate photography coverage; run live video stream for home basketball, hockey, lacrosse, soccer, softball, and volleyball games and coordinate with SJU for streaming of swim and dive and track and field; troubleshoot as needed and assist with game setup and takedown.
Serve as the primary contact for all media inquiries associated with CSB athletics and club sport activities; infuse athletics stories into strategies, campaigns and tactics.
Lead, train and supervise a team of student employees; ensure their understanding and execution of CSB+SJU brand voice and visual identities (including athletics identity).
Monitor client and competitor news to ensure that the institutions and student-athletes are getting relevant, positive media exposure.
Build a story repository with input and inspiration from clients, teammates and others.
Ensure stories are smart and functional— optimized with key terms and presented in a compelling format that drives engagement.
Understand and follow best practices and trends in media relations, content creation, copywriting, digital marketing and branding.
Oversee historical records of the athletic department; maintain and update individual, team, and program histories.
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in English, journalism, marketing or related field.
2+ years’ experience in media relations and/or sports marketing.
Availability to work nights and weekends.
Cross-channel expertise including websites, email, print, and social.
Highly creative and strategic; collaborative in ideation and feedback.
Strong presentation and interpersonal communication skills.
