The Coordinator of Athletic Communications supports UMBC's student-athletes and associated staff in all public relations aspects and related event operations of their programs.
Serve as UMBC Athletics’ primary media contact for: women’s soccer, men’s basketball and women’s lacrosse, assuring media coverage in print and electronic outlets.
Serve as the office’s event manager for the aforementioned programs and assists with event management for other home athletic events.
Promotes UMBC’s student-athletes and staff on a local and national basis in order that they may achieve NCAA, America East Conference and CoSIDA Academic All American recognition.
Displays proficiencies in both the NCAA Genius and Stat Crew statistics’ software programs.
Displays in-depth knowledge of Sidearm Sports content management system.
Displays proficiencies in Adobe’s In Design (event program production) and PhotoShop.
Understands the role of social media and can integrate video and graphics into various platforms.
Write and edit news stories for UMBC Athletics’ website and other media outlets.
To recognize and comply with the laws, policies, rules and regulations governing the University System of Maryland, UMBC, and its employees, as well as the rules of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the America East Conference (AEC) and those of any other conferences to which UMBC may become affiliated.
Other duties as assigned by Associate Athletic Director for Communications.
Note: Some evening and weekend hours may be required.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a Bachelor's degree, preferably in a communications or journalism-related field.
A minimum of one year of experience working in an intercollegiate athletics communications department required.
Multiple years of related intercollegiate communications experience are preferred.
