Research, monitor and report on state legislative and regulatory developments in all 50 states and Canada. Assist in preparation and dissemination of articles, correspondence and other materials that protect and advance the interests of SEMA members. Work with Governmental Affairs staff to further the Division's objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY

• Identify monitor and analyze relevant legislative and regulatory proposals from all 50 states and Canadian Provinces using Bloomberg Government alerts, Westlaw, Google News Alerts, newspapers, state mailing notices, state registers, and individual state contacts. 
• Create and maintain “Issue Status” spreadsheet identifying all legislative issues and developments of importance to the Association’s government affairs objectives. Update Issue Status as necessary. 
• Provide detailed analysis of flagged legislative and regulatory proposals related to identify potential impact on member companies and enthusiasts.
• Research and identify proposals and programs that would benefit SEMA/member companies and SAN/automotive enthusiasts; assist Director of State Government Affairs in drafting and enacting SEMA Model Legislation.
• Educate and advise the Director of State Government Affairs on priority legislative and regulatory matters and, in consultation with the Vice President, Government & Legal Affairs, direct which states to target for grassroots networking visits and campaigns to further these priorities.
• Provide support to the SEMA Action Network (SAN) including but not limited to the following: gather newly introduced legislation and maintain updates for media publication; respond to requests from SAN contacts; assist with processing/archiving message communication (e-blasts, websites, social media, etc.); contribute to Driving Force newsletter and SAN-related promotions; organize materials for distribution (mailings, events, etc.); assist in maintaining SAN membership database; maintain state lawmaker database; review auto magazines and track references to SEMA government affairs programs. 
• Maintain Washington office electronic files on state legislative/regulatory matters. 
• Prepare and disseminate information to member companies, auto enthusiasts and allied organizations to generate grassroots support regarding legislative and regulatory proposals through legislative action alerts, SAN website, etc.
• Direct specialized research requests state and federal statutes and regulations.
• Provide support in the planning and execution of SEMA events held in Washington D.C., Las Vegas, Sacramento, and other locations.
• When directed by management, perform other assignments and duties as required. 
• Maintain and update resources pages, alert pages, and Bill Track 50 legislative sheet on the SAN website. 
• Assist State Director in recruiting and maintaining the State Automotive Enthusiast Leadership Caucus.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

• Entry level position 
• Bachelor’s degree 
• Research skills relevant to government affairs and strong technical reading capability.  
• Strong written and oral communication skills. 
• Knowledge of computer systems and software.
