The CoMotion Marketing & Communications Team The Marketing & Communications team supports the marketing and communications needs of most departments within CoMotion including: innovation training; intellectual property advising & protection; funding & partnerships; and licensing, startups & incubation.
The purpose of the Writer/Content Creator position is to contribute to CoMotion’s success by developing compelling, engaging, story-focused content in support of the CoMotion integrated marketing and communications plan.
The Writer/Content Creator is integral to increasing awareness of the resources and services CoMotion offers its target audiences, enabling it to carry out its mission, goals, strategies, and projects. The marketing and communications efforts have a broad impact – not only with its target audiences, but across the University of Washington as a whole and the greater Seattle region.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Written communications and storytelling
Develop, write, edit, and produce digital and print communications, including blog posts, news announcements, eNewsletters, program and event emails, marketing collateral, case studies, and PowerPoint presentations..
Interview experts on commercialization topics and write compelling, audience appropriate stories for monthly newsletter and CoMotion blog.
Ensure marketing materials adhere to brand standards.
Website content creation and graphic design work
Write and implement regular content updates to three websites: CoMotion, Mobility Innovation Center, and Innovation Imperative using WordPress.
Support production of marketing collateral: create designs and layouts for brochures, posters, banners, promotional merchandise, and other pieces. Work with vendors to oversee production, quality and delivery.
Select and prepare photos/graphics for eNewsletters, social media, web, other collateral projects using Adobe PhotoShop and other platforms as needed.
Social media content creation
Support social media strategy and presence by creating posts across channels including Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube promoting stories, news and events, including photos and videos.
Plan and schedule social media posts using platforms such as TweetDeck.
Explore and propose new social media strategies, and techniques to keep our posts current and support our mission and objectives, as relevant to our key audiences.
Video and audio editing
Proficiency in Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere editing software to edit simple videos and audio soundbites, motion graphics skills a plus.
Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, English, public relations or a related field and two years of experience in marketing and communications.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Familiar with AP style writing.
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships and actively contributes as a member of working teams to achieve results.
Demonstrated creativity, organizational ability, and strong attention to detail.
Ability to make decisions in ambiguous situations, exercise good judgement based on information and analysis in a fast-paced, dynamic, deadline-driven environment in an organized and professional manner.
Commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable and inclusive work environment for all team members.
Proficiency using PC and Mac computers.
Demonstrated strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, special reports, spreadsheets, databases, forms, etc.
Demonstrated knowledge of social media tools and content standards.
Knowledge of Adobe PhotoShop; knowledge of other products in Adobe Suite a plus.
Knowledge of WordPress CMS.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration
Background in science and/or technology writing desired.
Experience working with startups of various fields.
Experience working in higher education.
Knowledge of Marketo email marketing software.
Knowledge of Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premier desired.
Some photography and video skills a plus.
Other Notes This is a hybrid role that requires the person to be onsite two days per week. Writing/content samples are required.
