JOB PURPOSE:
The Media Relations and Strategic Programming Manager will play a key role within Hoover's Media and Government Relations team and will be charged with providing both strategic and hands-on tactical execution of Hoover's Media Relations initiatives through communications, advocacy, media partnerships. Under the guidance of the Director of Media Relations, the incumbent will plan, coordinate and implement communication programs for the Hoover Institution both in California and Washington, DC. Develop and maintain media contacts in all facets of media to include print, television, radio, and podcasts, and support Director of Media Relations and Director of Media and Government Relations.
CORE DUTIES:
Plan and execute Hoover Media Roundtables, Hoover Media Fellowships, Hoover Book Clubs, and future media programming.
Build and maintain relationships with internal and external partners including supporting the Director of Media Relations in building and managing relationships with the media.
Participate in regular meetings of key fellows with media relations needs to develop strategies and tactics for facilitating effective communications.
Develop, execute, and oversee written communications of moderate complexity, including presentations, speeches, news stories, web content, talking points, and correspondence and social media posts.
Provide public relations support for audiences that are both internal and external to the university.
Identify and maintain professional relationships with key press, policy influencers and community leaders.
Prepare content for internal or external newsletters. Understand email and digital content distribution.
Assist in developing strategies for brand managements, reputation management and issues management of moderate complexity.
Assist with the design and implementation of effective constituent communications programs and social media strategies.
Serve as a project leader for public relations activities of small to moderate complexity.
ADDITIONAL CORE DUTIES*:
Support the Director of Media Relations in writing about complicated policy issues and developing communications materials such as press releases and briefing memos. Draft correspondence: copy, edit, and proofread materials as requested.
Support the planning and execution of integrated public affairs campaigns on policy proposals and Hoover Institution Fellow's book.
Support the execution of Media and Government Relations events.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience. Capitol Hill or Executive Branch experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Excellent written communication skills, reporting skills, and advanced skills in conceptual editing, copy editing, and proof reading.
Ability to work collaboratively with internal communications groups across campus.
Demonstrated interpersonal skills in working with a variety of people.
Capacity to write and synthesize materials and communicate information in a manner easily understood.
