Athletic Communications Director (Staff Assistant)

Salary: $40,000 to $55,000
Responsible for developing a communications and marketing plan to promote the athletic department; serve as liaison with head coaches as it relates to statistical management and website content. Manage all aspects of game operations and maintenance of the department website.
Detailed Statement of Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Develop annual communications plan for department to increase visibility and branding efforts 2. Website/social media content maintenance and design (rosters, bios, photos, etc.) 3. Oversee statistical and press coverage at home contests and disseminate information to local media following home and away contests 4. Coordinate, generate and compile statistical databases for all sports and handle weekly and end-of-year score and statistical reporting for the conference and NCAA 5. Compile and maintain record books and academic and athletic awards lists for all sports. 6. Write, edit and disseminate press releases, season previews, hometown news articles and feature stories to various media in compliance with the College's and the NCAA's policies and procedures 7. Produce department publications and promotional materials (game day programs, online media guides, fliers, etc.) 8. Serve as department external media contact and as liaison with on-campus offices (i.e. Communications, Admissions, etc.) regarding athletically related information 9. Schedule and coordinate photo shoots for teams, coaches and student-athletes, and maintain MCLA's files of such for website, publications and distribution to media as appropriate 10. Hire, train and supervise student event management staff for all home contest needs 11. Continually enhance the departments' social media outreach through new media platforms as the area evolves (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc.) 12. Manage contest schedule contracts 13. Oversee athletic official needs for home contests 14. Coordinate web streaming for home contests 15. Oversee and mentor Communications Assistant, provide job responsibilities, evaluate performance and provide feedback
1. Represent the athletic department at special College events, on designated committees, and in other situations as requested by the Director of Athletics 2. Manage the Athletic Hall of Fame event; serve as chair Hall of Fame committee. 3. Support mission and vision of athletic department 4. Serve as Game Day Supervisor 5. Complete all department, College and conference trainings 6. Attend mandatory department staff meetings and department events 7. Complete reports, special projects, and other duties at the request of the Director of Athletics 8. Work cooperatively with the Director of Athletics and Administrative Assistant in budgeting, requisitioning, inventory of all related athletic equipment and supplies needed 9. Conform to the highest standards of professional conduct regarding compliance with department and institutional policies and procedures and adherence to the rules and regulations of athletic governance organizations of which the institution is a member 10. Contribute to the maintenance of good working relationships with all staff, student-athletes, and external constituents through (a) a positive and constructive approach to all tasks, (b) respect for the competencies of others, and (c) appropriate conflict resolution behavior 11. Any staff member who is found in violation of NCAA regulations shall be subject to disciplinary or corrective action set forth in the provisions of the NCAA enforcement procedure and in accordance with the terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, and a staff member may be suspended without pay or terminated if the coach is found to be involved in deliberate and serious violations of NCAA regulations.
Bachelor's degree required, Master's preferred
Three to five years of collegiate athletic/sports information experience
Volleyball and Lacrosse in game statistics experience is preferred
Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro, or other design/video production software preferred
Knowledge of statistical programs (E.G., Statcrew, Presto Live Stats, Genius) required
Experience with a website redesign, preferred
An awareness of higher education principles, practices and procedures
Strong interpersonal and supervisory skills
Ability to express self in written and oral communication
Ability to work effectively with professional, non-professional, and student personnel
Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated attention to detail
Ability to demonstrate appropriate level of initiative
