The Director of Sports Information is responsible for all aspects of media and sports information relating to the college’s 12 intercollegiate sports: men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross-country, men’s and women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s soccer, baseball, softball, men’s golf and women’s volleyball. This may be achieved through the use of announcements, news releases, and publications which may be distributed to the media and the community; through the college’s athletic website; and through direct requests for information. The Director of Sports Information is required to abide by the rules and regulations established by Mitchell College, the NECC Athletic Conference, and the NCAA Division III.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Manages sports information game coverage of all home varsity events and handles all customary media reporting duties of the host sports information office
Compiles, maintains and updates statistics for all MC sports
Maintains, with periodic updates, Mitchell College Record Book and MC Athletics Department website
Satisfies informational and statistical requirements of the NCAA, and the NECC
Writes and edits press releases for local, regional and hometown media
Produces media guides upon request for coaches and single-sport brochures
Generates seasonal schedule posters for dorms, cafeteria, doors.
Create digital programs for home athletic contests and make available in a timely and professional manner
Arranges photo shoots for team photos, media guides and other College sports publications
Generates annual Athletic Year in Review video for the Senior Awards Dinner, Athletic Awards and for Admissions office usage
Produces press notes for media-attended athletic events
Writes regular copy for weekly updates for Mitchell College website
Updates the Mitchell College Athletics website during each home varsity event
Oversees and content creator for Mitchell Athletics social media platforms
Responds to requests and correspondence from the media, alumni and other interested parties
Serves as a chair of the College’s Athletic Hall of Fame Committee, handling research and publications as required
Travels with teams to post-season events and NCAA’s tournaments as needed
Trains and supervises the work-study students who are assigned to learn sports information and event management
Trouble shoots technology problems
Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics
Oversee maintenance of all portions of the athletics Web site
Work proactively with media to encourage coverage of college athletics events and news.
Oversee management of the press box at various on-campus sporting events, or assign coverage of this function to another member of the Athletics or Communications departments.
Ensure that workers are hired and assigned to cover the various game management functions required for each sporting event, such as public address announcer, music, scoreboard, live streaming video, and other functions.
Take or assign staff to take photographs when necessary.
Maintain rosters, schedules, season logs and statistics;
Demonstrate a sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students, along with staff and students with physical and learning disabilities
Physical Demands:
In the course of your job you make have to lift heavy objects (30 + lbs)

Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree
2 – 3 years of experience as an SID
Journalistic writing and reporting techniques;
Proper English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation;
Principles and procedures of record keeping;
Sporting rules and regulations along with statistical collection methodology;
Functions and keystrokes of StatCrew in-game statistical software;
Basic mathematical principles used in statistical computations;
Computer and Internet operation, including basic website maintenance;
Work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends;
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
Current and valid driver’s license.
Preferred Experience:
Degree in journalism, communications or related field.
Actively participate in professional organizations such as the CoSida
Key Skills / Knowledge:
Standard computer skills (like Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Frontpage etc…)
