Fulfills the mission of Norwich University by leading strategic communications and comprehensive public relations for Norwich Athletics and the department's 22 varsity athletics programs. The Director of Athletic Communications is an integral member of the Athletic Department's external operations team, and work in close collaboration with the university Office of Communications.
Salary: $60,000/year or more, depending on experience.
Determines communications strategy, plan, and execute programs to deliver communications objectives with measurable outcomes.
Develops and executes Athletics Communications budget on an annual basis.
Manages and supervises all department staff and work-study students/interns.
Serves as the Voice of Brand to the media for all NU Athletics programs--ensuring a timely dissemination of accurate information, including but not limited to, news releases, event results and overall statistics.
Maintains, publishes, produces, edits, and oversees all content on www.norwichathletics.com
Serves as media relations contact to all local, regional, and national media members to promote Norwich University athletics stories to all constituencies to raise visibility and affinity.
Oversees production content calendar to all @NorwichCadets social media channels on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
Oversees the production of approx. 150 annual home live athletic video stream events on the Norwich Broadcast Network through partnership with BlueFrame.
Conceptualizes and executes strategic informational, marketing, and promotional efforts with coaches, athletic administrators, Admissions team members, and on-campus constituents to inform, recruit and attract current and prospective students to Norwich.
Maintains internal athletics master calendar; collaborates with Director of Athletics and athletic scheduler.
Collaborates with the Maroon & Gold Athletic Association to conceptualize and create strategic cutting-edge content to support fundraising initiatives.
Assists Athletic Department in running annual Hall of Fame ceremony and committee.
Assists with Senior Athlete Recognition event and committee.
Manages the distribution of print and digital material such as recruitment publications, game programs, eNewsletter, email updates, and podcasts.
Writes, edits, and reviews all news releases, game notes and feature releases.
Maintains and updates history and record books.
Manages team rosters, statistics, records, and photo archives; manages and edits the athletics website.
Designs systems and protocols to ensure efficient and effective strategic and proactive communications operations, including working closely with the Office of Communications, Office of the Athletic Director, Office of Alumni & Family Engagement, and Development Office.
Assesses the performance of direct reports and provides feedback to optimize their performance.
Maintains confidentiality of sensitive or private information.
Communicates with employees, students, and others in a respectful and clear manner.
Serves on University committees, councils, workgroups, or other designated bodies as assigned.
Achieves, maintains proficiency in, and utilizes computers, telephones, and other job-related equipment, including related systems and software.
Speaks, reads, and writes in English.
Indoor work at a computer workstation and outdoor work at sporting events
Medium level of exposure to noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, and temperature changes.

Bachelor's degree required, degree in journalism, public relations, marketing, or related field preferred
3- 5 years of experience in sports journalism required.
Experience with sports statistics (Stat Crew, Prestostats, NCAA Live Stats software) required
Experience with databases, event planning, and project management preferred
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, and Outlook) and Adobe Creative Cloud required
Able to sit, squat, reach, push, pull, and manipulate related equipment; lift 15 pounds; travel outdoors to various parts of the campus
Work evening, weekend, or holiday break hours
Travel as needed (public or private transportation)
