The USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences is the academic core of the University of Southern California, one of the worldâs leading private research universities. The multi-award-winning USC Dornsife Office of Communication, which includes specialists in news writing, media relations, graphic design, marketing and video production, is looking for a creative and data-driven audience engagement editor â someone more than a director of social media â to join our team of marketing communication professionals. The position reports to the senior associate dean for communication.
Our offices are located at the USC Tower in downtown Los Angeles but weâre currently working remotely, with periodic in-person get-togethers and campus visits.

Take the reins of USC Dornsifeâs social media accounts, including LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram
Develop creative, attention-getting, brand-consistent posts â tailored to each platform â that engage our social media followers and grow our following
Analyze relevant data from our social media accounts and communicate findings to the team
Use your creativity and data analytics skills to help inform and shape all the content we create
Field requests from throughout the College for social media promotion, using judgment and experience to evaluate those requests and diplomacy when necessary to decline them
Develop innovative ideas and strategies to more effectively engage our stakeholders via social media, particularly LinkedIn
Lead, support and advise a loose network of social media administrators in departments, centers, programs and institutes throughout the College
Stay current on best-practices and trends regarding SEO and social media engagement
Help write news and feature story headlines and optimize news content for search engines
Use your judgment and experience to boost select posts from an advertising budget youâll manage, reporting results to the team
Actively monitor and listen to whatâs being said about the College and our scholars on the internet and advise leadership on how to respond, if appropriate
Contribute to an inclusive work environment, building and maintaining strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders
Closely collaborate with USCâs social media team and represent the College at university-wide communication meetings

At least four years of experience managing social media platforms for a brand â ideally a news organization
A nuanced understanding of data analytics and a track record of using data to make informed decisions on social media content strategy
A proven ability to write engaging and internet-savvy headlines and copy
Experience optimizing news content for search engines
Strong familiarity with AP style
Excellent oral communication skills
Experience reflecting diversity, equity and inclusion in social media content
Experience using software tools/apps to create digital assets
Experience creating and evaluating ads/boosted posts on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and/or Instagram
Analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to proactively, independently, strategically and creatively make decisions
Strong interpersonal skills
Experience with Microsoft Office and content management systems, preferably WordPress
Ability to successfully juggle multiple projects and meet tight deadlines
Receptive to feedback
