AMSA is an individual membership organization of meat scientists representing major university research and teaching institutions and meat processing companies in the United States and internationally. Our members conduct basic and applied research and education programs in muscle growth and development, meat quality, food safety, processing technology, and consumer and marketing issues relevant to the international meat industry.
AMSA is currently seeking a student that meets our qualifications (see below). The deadline for applications is September 16, 2022.
Position: Fall Internship- Youth Programs Location: Remote, intern will attend the American Royal (October 15-16, 2022), 2022 National FFA Convention (October 26-28, 2022); Cargill High Plains (October 29-30, 2022) and International (November 12-13, 2022-possible travel).
Time Period: September –December 2022 with potential to carry into the spring of 2023. Scholarship: $500/month and all travel expenses will be paid. This would include approximately 15-20hrs. per week.
Intern General Responsibilities:
Student should be prepared to attend the American Royal- Omaha, NE, Cargill High Plains- Friona, TX, and the International- Dakota City, NE Intercollegiate Meat Judging Contests and 2022 National FFA Convention- Indianapolis, IN and assist with tasks as needed.
Student will be assigned to help many different AMSA staff members with a variety of Youth Programs events, competitions, and educational materials. AMSA staff members will direct the student in specific duties at events, competitions, and educational materials.
Student will assist staff with the development of meat judging educational materials, transition to the learning management system, and development of self-guides for new users to the platform.
Student will assist staff with the development and creation of the Intercollegiate Meat Judging Promotional video and materials.
Student will assist staff with development and maintenance of AMSA Connect, Youth Programs website maintenance, social media presence, virtual youth events and other tasks as needed.
This AMSA internship will provide an excellent opportunity to network with people throughout the meat industry and other student members.
This internship can expand to a monthly internship in the Spring of 2023 based on candidate and qualifications.
Interns will assist the AMSA staff in promoting AMSA through traditional media outlets, social media, and at Youth Programs events. YOUTH PROGRAMS EVENTS related tasks include assisting in their coordination, attending, and assisting in photography, videography, and social media duties once on site. Other tasks include drafting internal news stories, scientific white papers, fact sheets and other projects web related projects as they arise.
Must be an AMSA member.
Excellent writing, research and interpersonal communication skills.
Must have own computer for assignments.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe applications, internet, social media platforms, and email.
Minimum Junior-level college student at an accredited university at time of application (Senior-level and graduate students are encouraged to apply.)
Ability to prioritize and handle a variety of assignments simultaneously.
Possible travel to various youth events: American Royal (October 15-16, 2022), 2022 National FFA Convention (October 26-28, 2022); Cargill High Plains (October 29-30, 2022) and International (November 12-13, 2022).
Preferably have a background in (or working knowledge of) the meat and/or food industry.
Minimum 2.5 GPA.
