Since 1800, when St. Madeleine Sophie Barat founded the Society of the Sacred Heart in France, Religious of the Society of the Sacred Heart and lay Sacred Heart educators have carried out her imperative of educational excellence. The Director of Strategic Communications, working collaboratively with members of the senior administrative team, reports directly to the President to support the strategic communication efforts of the entire school, including the management, alignment, and promotion of the Carrollton brand. The Director is responsible for the development and execution of an overarching, strategic communications plan for Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart, including effective public relations, institutional brand awareness, and traditional and new media.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
A commitment to the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart network schools as articulated in the school mission
A commitment to social justice, inclusion, and diversity (SJID), as outlined in the Goals and Criteria, and thoughtful storytelling through the lens of the Sacred Heart.
Participate in reflective, self-directed, on-going professional development
Participate in staff meetings, liturgies, retreats, and special events such as, but not limited to, admissions showcases, events with community partners, etc. as needed
Willingness and ability to work 12 months, and outside of regular school hours
Traditional /New Media Materials – working with the offices of Institutional Advancement and Admissions, provide creative and editorial content development, management, production, and distribution assistance for:
Content and design for all internal and external facing collateral and publications (e.g. magazines, annual reports, admission materials and brochures, viewbooks, campus signage)
Development and implementation of information flow – editorial/communications calendar for the institution.
Fundraising, marketing, and engagement materials.
Special Event marketing materials (Reunion, Celebrate, and other Alumnae and/or Parent gatherings).
Carrollton’s School Profile and College Counseling materials.
Other collateral publications as needed (e.g., Faculty Recruitment brochure).
Website and Social Media
Manage, develop, and edit Carrollton’s website content and SEO.
The Communications Office will oversee the Carrollton website, including content updates, photos, etc. The Director will lead this effort.
Coordinate all Carrollton’s social networking activities, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, SmugMug, YouTube, and Vimeo.
Work collaboratively with the Athletic and the Institutional Advancement departments regarding news and announcements.
Coordinate and publish a bi-monthly Parent E-news; oversee general blast email communications.
Public Relations Program
The Director will be the spokesperson for Carrollton. The Director will be the external facing figure "image" of the school, on and off campus, and will be expected to represent themselves in a manner that is consistent with, and align with, the Goals and Criteria. This person is someone the community, including students, will want to see as an accurate representation and reflection of our school, student body, and greater community in all facets.
Send regular press releases and story pitches in advance to media outlets covering all areas of Carrollton’s life, including extracurricular and co-curricular activities. Check sources for stories related to Carrollton and maintain files of media coverage.
Manage crisis communications, both internally and externally, including drafting communications for the President and being the spokesperson to the media.
Assist with neighbor relations and campus master plan communications.
Develop and execute an advertising strategy to include print and digital platforms.
Work collaboratively with Admissions Office to create advertising materials.
Photography & Video
Oversee Carrollton photography and video, including managing freelance photographers, videographers, and Carrollton’s photographic archives.
Capture the life of the school by taking photographs and collaborating with faculty.
Oversee the selection of photographs and videos for various publications.
Provide/share photo and video resources with the internal and external community.
