AAAS has an exciting opportunity for a Social Media Manager to join our Office of Communications. Reporting to the Digital Director, you will oversee the day-to-day strategy, planning and execution of the main social media pages for AAAS, including amplifying social media content from across the organization, in close collaboration with the Communications Officer. You will coordinate closely with the Social Media Managers Network, including sharing best practices, managing social media scheduling and listening tools, and providing strategic guidance. You will work closely with the Digital Director to regularly audit social media pages across the organization and provide guidance on any recommended adjustments.

What You’ll Do
Provide day-to-day management of AAAS social media presence in collaboration with Communications Officer.
Review and manage guidance for social media engagement (e.g., style guides).
Provide social media guidance and strategy to other departments, particularly the Social Media Managers Network.
Provide input on audience analytics and behavior, managing reports and setting goals with the Digital Director.
Optimize social media activity based on analytics and provide guidance on how to leverage data to achieve goals.
Provide paid media expertise across the organization and manage paid media campaigns.
Participate in social media audits with digital team members and Communications Officer.
Monitor and moderate social media feeds, elevating issues as they arise.
Manage social scheduling and listening tools with Communications Officer.
Manage social media live events and audience engagement.
Serve as a resource on multimedia content for social media in collaboration with the team.
Stay abreast of current best practices in social media and serve as AAAS liaison for social media management platforms.
Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or other relevant field.
5-7 years’ experience with social media strategy, tactics, and analytics.
Experience navigating social media crises.
Experience managing paid media campaigns.
Familiarity with building audience profiles and identifying where those audiences engage online.
Familiarity with AP style, content management systems, and video and social media platforms.
Experience with project and social media management tools, such as Brandwatch, Tweetdeck, and Meltwater.
Proven ability to write accurate and compelling content.
Demonstrated ability to set priorities while coordinating multiple projects.
Solutions-oriented mindset to address challenges, which may require innovation and creativity and typically involves in-depth analysis and risk assessment.
Ability to build productive business relationships with external and internal partners and work collaboratively with colleagues toward a unified vision.
Self-starter that can work independently and entrepreneurially.

The anticipated initial rate of compensation for this position is between $80,000 and $95,000 per year. AAAS currently provides the following benefits for this position: paid vacation leave, paid sick leave, paid holidays, health insurance, flexible spending account, dental insurance, life insurance, vision insurance, retirement benefits, short- and long-term disability, each subject to the terms of the applicable program. Additional benefits may apply.
