The Texas Tribune — a nonprofit, nonpartisan digital news organization — offers paid fellowships to college students each spring, summer and fall. Fellows play key roles in the most important work of The Texas Tribune, covering the biennial legislative sessions, elections and the impact of the coronavirus on the state, among other important topics. The positions are part time in the spring and fall and are full time in the summer. They are typically based in our Austin newsroom, except for the Washington, D.C., reporting fellowship. Candidates should be available to work in person when it is safe to do so.
Recent graduates are eligible for the summer program, but spring and fall fellows must be enrolled undergraduate or graduate students while they work at the Tribune. You may apply for more than one position.

We are now taking applications for 2023 spring and summer fellowships — due at 11:59 p.m. Central Time Oct. 2 — for the following positions: copy editing, data visuals, engagement, engineering, events, marketing and communications, multimedia, photography, reporting (Austin) and reporting (Washington, D.C.).
Spring fellows must be enrolled in school for the spring semester; summer fellows may be recent graduates. Most fellows will work from Central Texas, but we are looking to fill a reporting position with a candidate in the D.C. area and will consider design and engineering candidates who would work remotely. Graduate students are eligible.

The Tribune was founded in 2009 by John Thornton (a venture capitalist in Austin for nearly 20 years and passionate believer in public media), Evan Smith (the veteran editor-in-chief of Texas Monthly and host of a weekly interview program on PBS stations), and Ross Ramsey (former owner and editor of Texas Weekly, the state’s premier newsletter on politics and government, now rebranded as The Blast).
The Texas Tribune and its destination website were launched in November 2009, thanks to $4 million in private contributions as seed funding, a small band of talented computer programmers and some of the most accomplished journalists in the state.
