The Office for Health Equity and Inclusion (OHEI) develops mechanisms for inclusion, diversity and cultural sensitivity among faculty, staff, and learners at Michigan Medicine. We strive to create an impact on these stakeholders that will reverberate in Michigan Medicine’s patient care and community outreach initiatives. The team is expanding to focus on research, dissemination of information, and policy guidance around the issues of diversity, inclusion, and health equity. We also serve current and prospective health sciences students of all ages, to strengthen the pathway for diverse students to access this competitive and growing field.
The Communications & Marketing Specialist plans and coordinates marketing and communications and materials for OHEI. The successful candidate will assist with the development and design of digital and print publications (i.e., brochures, manuals, websites, and social media platforms.) and support the implementation of marketing strategies and assist with research and analyses. This position will execute effective employee communication and support DEI initiatives across the academic medical center. The work will be aligned with the strategies of OHEI and the broader campus-wide DEI initiative. This position reports to the Health Equity Operations Manager.
Provide strategic marketing support for OHEI led and/or supported DE&I activities.
Research, design and implement campaigns designed to impact behavior and actions of faculty and staff.
Develop OHEI leadership presentations and assist with strategic messaging.
Coordinate with OHEI Public Relations Manager on the design and visual elements of letters, stories, profiles, news and announcements around key practices, developments, and events for distribution to faculty, staff, and external stakeholders based on project needs.
Design event announcements, banners, signage, annual reports, and infographics.
Manage vendors who provide creative support for OHEI led and/or supported DEI activities and initiatives, including but not limited to photographers, videographers, designers and printers – as needed.
Leverage technology and digital and social media to optimize and increase innovative communication approaches to effectively reach all levels of staff.
Maintain OHEI website content with input from OHEI team members, as well as provide leadership with suggestions for how the website could be updated or improved.
Work with university leadership and constituents in DOC to improve relationships across units of Michigan Medicine and identify and promote messages around DEI priorities, policies, and trainings that impact the Michigan Medicine community.
Engage with university DEI stakeholders as needed to ensure campus-wide consistency.
Strategically utilize analytics tools to gain insight into the effective use of internal communications channels and content.
Develop in-depth knowledge of OHEI and DEI within the academic medical center.
Maintains professional and technical knowledge and skills and actively pursues learning opportunities and ways to broaden experience and knowledge base.
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in communication-related field; journalism, communications, information, graphic design, marketing, public relations, or related field.
Three-plus years professional or relevant experience in web or graphic design, marketing, communications, or public relations in a professional setting.
Excellent interpersonal skills and proven experience generating client satisfaction and developing solutions in complex matrixed organizations with numerous internal and external stakeholders.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with solid understanding of digital media.
Experience designing, overseeing, and maintaining print and electronic communication materials, such as newsletters, annual reports, websites, blogs, and social media.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively individually and as part of a team.
Demonstrated ability to effectively balance multiple priorities
Experience supporting diversity or culture change initiatives and familiarity with DEI language best practices
Experience with content management systems, particularly Drupal and WordPress.
Experience with analytics tools.
Experience with be content management systems and coding.
Experience with Office365 suite and SharePoint intranet site management.
40 hours/week; Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm
This position is primarily remote.
