The Highlights Reporting to the Associate Vice President, this position directs the overall strategy and editorial direction of Newsline, the primary internal communications mechanism at DePaul, and leads internal communications planning and implementation.

Serves as editor-in-chief of Newsline: • Leads the editorial direction of the faculty-staff and student e-newsletters and maintains quality control. • Directs the ongoing development and production process by assigning, writing and editing high-quality articles to communicate strategic institutional messages. • Builds collaborative relationships to mine stories that illustrate the DePaul brand. • Leverages existing internal collaboration and networking tools and employs emerging technology to further deploy content and information internally, as appropriate. • Directs the evaluation of measurement of Newsline for effectiveness. • Supervises and mentors Newsline staff.
Strategically communicates internal university initiatives and news across a variety of communication platforms: • Provides strategic counsel and serves in an advisory capacity to senior administrators on internal communications planning and implementation. • Proposes and creates innovative approaches and solutions to communicate university initiatives. • Works closely with other UMC areas to coordinate communications and maximize reach of the content. • In partnership with Human Resources, Academic Affairs, Advancement, Student Affairs, Mission and Ministry, Office of the Secretary and others, leads internal communications planning and implementation for initiatives such as change management, Joint Council-level leadership changes, crisis communications, initiative rollouts, and major university events, providing a comprehensive approach to strategic initiatives.
Supports executive communications: • Organizes, researches and drafts speeches and background materials for executive leadership and, at times, scripts for special university events.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree required
Minimum 7-10 years professional experience in writing creatively in varied styles, such as news writing, feature writing, website content creation and script and speech writing.
Experience in editing and knowledge of AP Style and proofreading skills required.
Prior work in communications and public relations, particularly in non-profit and/or higher education preferred.
Technical knowledge of maintaining websites and related software programs.
Experience with web and social media technologies.
Supervises the Internal Communications Manager who manages day-to-day Newsline activities.
Supervises part-time staff and/or contractors who contribute to Newsline.
