The University of Texas Permian Basin's Athletics Department welcomes applications for the position of Assistant Sports Info Director
Salary Range $36,000.00 depending on qualifications
Essential Functions The Assistant Sports Information Director provides assistance with planning and implementing communications strategies as they relate to the goals and objectives of the University of Texas Permian Basin’s sixteen athletic programs. This position serves as the primary contact for assigned sports and is responsible for the assigned sports’ publicity, information, and historical archives while also serving as the secondary contact for all other sports.
1. Know, understand, and comply with policies of the NCAA, Lone Star Conference, and the University of Texas Permian Basin. 2. Write effectively with working knowledge of AP Style. 3. Prepare press releases, game notes, feature articles, and ensure content for assigned sports is maintained and accurate on athletics’ website. 4. Develop and maintain good working relationships with and distribute information to local, regional, and national sport-specific media outlets. 5. Assist with coordination of design and use of graphics for assigned sports. 6. Develop and maintain good working relationships with staff, coaches, and student-athletes. 7. Thorough knowledge and understanding of terminology and statistics used in intercollegiate sports. 8. Serve as on-campus media services host for intercollegiate athletics events and coordinate statistical and media coverage for those events. 9. Responsible for digital media guide content, editing, and design. 10. Maintain department archival records and statistical files. 11. The assistant SID will be in charge of creating video content for the department. This includes but is not limited to; in-game highlights, postgame highlights, and news type feature stories about student-athletes and coaches.
Required Qualifications 1. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution. 2. Two years of experience in media relations, athletics communications, or sports information. 3. Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook); Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro; Genius and Stat Crew software; Social media platforms (including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram). 4. Desktop publishing and design/layout skills.
Preferred Qualifications 1. Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or Sports Management. 2. Knowledge of Sidearm Sports website client.
