The Editor, Audience for WBUR builds, develops and works to understand and grow WBUR's digital audiences. This position is key to WBUR's goals to develop deeper relationships with its current audience, and to develop relationships with new audiences, including a younger and more diverse public media community. The role is ideal for an experienced digital practitioner and involves writing, visual storytelling and creating material for third party platforms, in conjunction with the responsibility to inquire, listen and develop insights from audience conversation, research and metrics. This role within the WBUR newsroom works with reporters, editors, photographers and others to develop journalistic content and presentation in various story forms. This role is strategic, working with the Executive Editor, Digital to focus on audience growth and engagement through content development and to help fulfill WBUR's strategic audience growth goals. This editorial role involves working across the newsroom and station across platforms, including (but not limited to) websites, newsletters, visuals, social media, broadcast and streaming.
The Editor, Audience works directly with WBUR audiences, in forms such as surveys, research, communication and in-person events. The Editor, Audience is expected to work with occasional supervision and across editorial groups to manage projects and products and may be the lead editor on specific editorial projects and train others. The Editor, Audience uses independent judgment and has responsibility to make decisions to implement newsroom strategy, meet project deadlines and to adjust for developing conditions. This job requires a thorough understanding of how to promote interactivity and audience engagement with digital users.
Must be detail-oriented, care deeply about journalistic standards and have a strong news sensibility. The Editor, Audience position may oversee processes and set expectations for people. 4 years related experience recommended. This position has the opportunity to be hybrid. The minimum salary for this position is $78,413 and can go up with experience and internal equity.
Bachelor's degree or relevant experience. At least four years of relevant experience.
