The Communications Coordinator within the MSU College of Education Communications team plays a pivotal role in managing the function of the office and the accuracy of its outputs.
Job responsibilities include:
- Review, edit and revise content for accuracy and quality, including spelling, grammar, punctuation, formatting and syntax - Compose, review, edit, produce, and duplicate audio, visual, video, and/or printed program materials for distribution to target audiences - Research materials, interviews individuals, and collects information to compose articles, press releases, promotional pieces, reports, or catalogs in print or electronic media - Manage product, event material and publications inventory, including forecasting needs and ordering supplies to maintain inventory levels - Strategize ideas for effective use of college promotional and event materials - Develop and maintain relationships with product vendors - Manage print and digital email lists and databases - Assist in fiscal responsibilities for the team, including overseeing larger reconciliation purchases; handling requests for proposals (RFPs) and requests for information (RFIs); and understanding the policies and protocols around office operations and procurement
The successful candidate may assist with content and/or strategy for various websites, marketing campaigns and social media platforms. The role is collaborative within the unit and across the broader college and university faculty and staff. This position has the possibility of overseeing student employees.
Because this role coordinates inventory and distribution, the position requires some moderate physical effort, including lifting boxes and/or bulk mailings of up to 26-75 pounds.
Please note this role is hybrid. Per college policy, individuals are expected to be on campus a minimum of two (2) days per week.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Communications, Telecommunications, Journalism, Marketing, or Public Relations; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in internal communications; news, broadcasting, and print media, and/or marketing, advertising, and creative services; graphic design; word processing; desktop publishing; web design; presentation software; spreadsheet and/or database software; public presentation; or radio production; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated experience with proofreading and editing - Proficient with applying the principles of style guides, such as the Associated Press and/or similar editorial styles (Chicago, etc.) - Proficient in Microsoft Office - Excellent understanding of English grammar - Demonstrated strong communication and writing skills - Ability to work collaboratively with others as well as independently - Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and consistently meet deadlines - Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite; email systems such as Salesforce or MailChimp; and web editing systems such as Word press; and/or social media platforms - Previous office administration and/or fiscal management work considered a plus
