The Associate Athletics Director for Digital media and Communications is responsible for providing administrative leadership and oversight of the athletic department’s external team and in the strategic development and distribution of content across all platforms, including web, digital, print, external news platforms and social media. The incumbent is responsible for the management of the Peacocks Digital Network and all school-produced ESPN productions and oversees branding, fundraising, licensing, marketing and corporate partnerships.
Manage day-to-day operations of External Relations/Communications/Marketing.
Supervise and develop direct reports (2 FT), graduate assistants (3), interns, student assistants and freelance staff.
Provide strategic media relations advice to administration and sport programs; plan, promote and implement an ongoing media training program for administration, sport programs, student-athletes and others
Responsible for the management of the Peacocks Digital Network and all school-produced ESPN broadcasts with duties to include:
Plan and produce game-day video roll-ins, highlights and other video pieces during live events; calling the event while on headset communication with the rest of the production crew and game day marketing staff.
Supervision of game-day production crew for men's and women's basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, baseball and softball.
Coordinate all video production, filming includes news conferences, post-game interviews, practices, games and other department events.
Oversee all phases of the production of video-based projects or programs including conceptualization, scripting, planning, lighting, photographing, sound recording, editing, and graphics creation, authoring, and producing.
Recruit, hire, schedule, manage and direct intern staff necessary to implement audio/video projects, home contests and events held in the Yanitelli Center and Jaroschak Field.
Creating graphics packages and post-production work for in-game video needs such as introduction videos, replay sponsorships, starting lineup headshots, countdown to tip-offs and other features.
Manage video-related outsourcing, support contracts and media requests
Organize and manage a digital assets library for Saint Peter’s Athletics.
Creating highlight and end of season tapes for select sports.
Work collaboratively with staff to implement creative video features that heighten the awareness and strengthens the “brand” of Saint Peter’s Athletics and its 16 varsity programs
Oversee revenue-generating events for Peacock Nation (fundraising), including Athletics Golf Outing, Hall of Fame Luncheon, Basketball Tip-Off Dinner, etc.
Serves as liaison to Office of Advancement, Alumni/External Relations and Enrollment Marketing.
Submit budget proposals on a timely manner and adhere to approved budget.
Understand and communicate Saint Peter’s Athletics priorities, missions and issues, and place them in context and communicate them to various constituencies, the news media and a general audience.
Other duties as assigned
Familiarity with TV sports broadcast productions in a formal control room setting
Familiarity with production hardware/software, including Ross Carbonite Switchers/Dashboard, XPression Graphics Software, Envivo Replay Software (or similar), Dante Audio interfaces, etc.
Knowledge of statistical software; public relations or journalism writing
Technically adept with audio/video equipment, editing software, etc.
Knowledge of risk management and problem-solving from a public relationsstandpoint
Extremely strong writing skills are necessary for the position
Experience in collegiate athletics setting with prior experience in marketing, fundraising, advancement, etc. recommended but not required
Preferred three to five years of full-time experience in intercollegiate athletics required
Experience with operating a digital collegiate sports network
Experience with Adobe CC software, SIDEARM website oversight and social media account management, including the ability to interpret website/social media analytics
Knowledge of the MAAC Conference or college basketball in a major conference is a plus. Knowledge of the New York Metropolitan area media is a plus.
Experience running an office and/or working with budgets is a plus.
Familiarity with policy issues concerning the administration of intercollegiate athletics and higher education preferred, including
Ability to direct and perform detailed work with accuracy under time pressures.
Candidate must have a clear understanding of NCAA rules and compliance regulations.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills combined with the ability to interact with diverse groups.
The position is required to be present at home events for assigned sports, which involves working weekends on a regular basis when sports are in season. The job also requires being in the office for late evenings if there are home games, special events and to prepare for upcoming games. The same applies to holidays if teams are in season.
This position is required to drive a Mercedes Sprinter Van, which is the athletics department’s mobile control room unit for all ESPN productions (required for all home men’s/women’s basketball games and all home playoff soccer/volleyball/softball games/matches)
Periods of high volume/work load varies by season
Working outdoor athletics events with minimal protection from the elements for soccer/baseball/softball, which is played at a county park with a portable press box.
Have a familiarity with numerous sports, deal with a large number of constituencies and be very flexible in meeting the dynamic demands of co-workers, media and the general public. The position requires excellent planning and organizational skills. Superior written, verbal and editorial skills are a must. The position must be able to juggle a wide variety of tasks and constantly anticipate issues that may arise. The position must be an advocate for Saint Peter’s administrators, coaches and staff, and be able to adapt to and work with a wide variety of personalities, both internal and external
