Summary of Duties:
The Communication Coordinator is a member of the WSU Tri-Cities Office of Marketing and Communication, an in-house strategic and creative team that proactively brings the universities' stories to a broad variety of audiences in support of WSU Tri-Cities' mission and its enrollment, reputational, and advancement goals. This role supports the recruitment marketing strategy, the communications strategy for the university and the Office of the Chancellor for both internal and external engagements.
Required Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, marketing or other relevant field AND either two (2) years of professional experience in print OR broadcast news media, public relations, marketing including the use of electronic media or two (2) years of other relevant professional experience.
Experience using Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel programs.
Demonstrated ability to write press releases, news articles and marketing or promotional content.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience in higher education with samples of audience-specific writing for prospective, applicant, and matriculating student audiences.
Proven ability to write interesting, accessible copy about complex topics for a non-technical audience.
Ability to write news/feature stories as well as marketing content.
Experience creating social media content.
Experience working with members of the media.
Knowledge of AP style, with an ability to follow editorial standards and apply university brand messaging.
Understanding of higher education recruitment cycle from prospect to applicant to matriculated student.
Excellent writing, editing, fact-checking, proofreading and verbal communication.
Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact effectively, with persons of varying levels of responsibility and experience, both orally and in writing.
