The School of Health Sciences at the University of New Haven is seeking to hire a dynamic full- time staff member to support the coordination of non-clinical internships and graduate student advisement. This position reports to the Chair of the Department of Population Health and Leadership within the School of Health Sciences.
The University of New Haven School of Health Sciences educates competent, caring health professionals by delivering innovative, interdisciplinary healthcare education and services that are student-centered, focused on excellence, with a global reach. The School aims to be a regional destination and nationally recognized leader for healthcare education and services at the forefront of healthcare for the 21st century. The School is partnering with Planetree International to become one of the first schools of health science to be certified in person- centered care. The School of Health Sciences offers a range of academic programs from undergraduate to doctoral programs offered on its West Haven, Connecticut campus. The School’s faculty include 55 full-time and clinical faculty, an on-campus Dental Center, a pre- clinical training facility, and a Health Sciences Simulation Laboratory.
The School of Health Sciences has several non-clinical programs in public health, health administration, and health sciences, all of which require an internship for graduation. This role will support internship coordination to graduate and undergraduate students in these programs. The successful candidate will also work to ensure that graduate students within various programs connect with information and resources to ensure their matriculation, progression, and successful completion of the program. This position requires frequent student and faculty in- person interaction and timely response to student concerns.
Specific Duties:
Internship Coordination
Identifies organizations for internship and capstone project opportunities for students in the School of Health Sciences
Advises students on internship programs and processes
Coordinates internship opportunities with students
Instructs internship courses for undergraduate academic programs
Manages internship agreements between organizations and the University and School of Health Sciences
Maintains records on student internships and outcomes
Conducts resume and cover letter reviews prior to matching students to internships
Updates and creates content related to internship engagement via Facebook, Twitter, Newsletters and other social media program
Academic Advising
Provides academic advising to graduate students (online and on-ground) of all department programs including course selections and offerings, independent studies, degree requirements, concentration options, registration process, waivers/transfers requests and other academic decisions
Creates and updates advising documents for students including program flowcharts, FAQ pages, internship checklist, course waiver information, and independent study forms
Assists with retention efforts by contacting current students regarding registration
Acts as liaison with student and department chairperson and/or program director to obtain waiver/transfer/course overload approval
Coordinates with Graduate Enrollment, Marketing/Events and Public Information offices on graduate events
Plans and attends Open Houses, and Acceptance and Orientation Day programs for graduate students

Minimum Qualifications:
An earned master’s degree in a health-related field
Experience advising, mentoring, or coaching students
Experience managing programs
Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with developing health-related partnerships
Experience with academic program advisement and management
Experience working in diverse, multidisciplinary teams
