DEFINITION: Under general supervision, to present and carry out public information programs to keep the public and employees informed about District activities and accomplishments, and to do related work as required.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Provides a wide range of public outreach and education services to the community through a variety of mediums that increase consumer knowledge of the District and contributes to the positive reputation of the District.
Contributes to strategic communications effort by researching data, brainstorming ideas, writing copy for and designing District-related publications, newsletters, brochures, flyers and other materials to inform the public and employees of District activities.
Prepares and distributes fact sheets and press releases to media representatives while maintaining District integrity and philosophy.
Assists in the preparation of other public information programs such as fairs, conventions, public events and meetings.
Conducts and provides logistical support for tours of District facilities.
Assists in preparation of speeches, columns, and documentary videos.
Assists in preparation and set up of exhibits for meetings and conventions.
Plans, develops, and implements special projects as required.
Works with others to monitor news coverage, and social media accounts, including making posts to the Districts social media accounts.
Works with outside vendors such as printers and public relations consultants, as needed.
Attends CVWD Board of Directors meetings, as required.
Attends City Council meetings, community events and other activities as a representative of the District, as required.
Assists other departments within the District in the design and creation of their publications.
License/Certifications: Valid California Operators license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles. Department of Motor Vehicles driving record may influence employment or classification.
Experience: Five years’ experience in an editorial capacity with a daily newspaper, public relations firm, or as a public information representative, or any combination training and experience that would prove qualifying.
Education: A bachelor’s degree in journalism, mass communication, public relations or related field from an accredited college or university preferred.
The Coachella Valley Water District is recognized for its worldwide progressive water management techniques. Covering approximately 1,000 square miles of southeastern California desert in Riverside, Imperial, and San Diego Counties, the District provides irrigation water service from the Colorado River through the All American Canal system to approximately 66,000 acres of fruits and vegetables including table grapes, citrus, sweet corn, and 90% of the country’s dates.
The District also provides urban water from 100 wells to more than 100,000 homes and businesses and sewer service through six reclamation plants to more than 90,000 homes and businesses.
The District is also a State Water Project contractor using available water for groundwater replenishment.
