Under the Division of Student Affairs, the Dean of Students portfolio is comprised of 14 departments, including the Military-Affiliated Student Center, that provides support for active duty, reserve, national guard, veterans, and their dependents. The Assistant Director for the Military-Affiliated Student Center administers programs and services with an understanding of the unique needs of military-affiliated students. This position supports the director providing university-wide leadership for outreach, training and education within the campus community to increase the awareness of the military-student experience as well as participate in advocacy, support and referral services for individual military-affiliated students.
The employee in this position must regularly interact with multiple departments within the Dean of Students Office and department across campus, as well as respond to concerns from students, staff, faculty, parents, and other external stakeholders. They must work with a diverse population and must be able to coordinate multiple responsibilities and maintain accurate records in accordance with specific university policies and laws pertaining to their work.
This employee must exercise independent judgment and/or decision-making ability with moderate supervisory consultation and must engage in appropriate ongoing education and training to ensure effective delivery of service.
This position requires occasional nights and weekends for student community programming and a flexible schedule will be supported.
This position will be hired as a Student Services Specialist II.
SUPERVISORY ASSIGNMENT/RELATIONSHIPS:
The Assistant Director for Military-Affiliated Student Center reports to the Director of the Military-Affiliated Student Center and supervises two graduate students, as well as VA work study students.
Program Management and Implementation
Support and lead the planning and implementation of Military/Veteran Transition and Academic Success programs in coordination with the Director of the MASC.
Oversee the planning and execution of events to be held in the MASC throughout the academic year.
Collaborate with offices within the university and with external partners to provide a welcoming and supportive environment for student veterans to assist them in obtaining educational and other VA benefits.
Work collaboratively with the University's Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) programs on events and programs with ROTC cadets, as appropriate
Assessment
Coordinate programmatic assessment efforts for the Military-Affiliated Student Center.
Regularly assess programs and events to Co-Curricular Learning Domains.
Develop semesterly report to showcase programming efforts.
Administrative Functions
Supervise graduate student and indirectly supervise student employees
Complete annual reporting items to showcase the accomplishments of the Military-Affiliated Student Center
Coordinate social media accounts managed by the Military-Affiliated Student Center.
Communications     Â
Serve as the web manager for MASC website.
Assist in the development of student veterans help guides and publication materials.
Ensure communications coming from the MASC are clear, well-written, and positively reflect the Military-Affiliated Student Center.
