Position Summary The Department of Journalism & Creative Media at The University of Alabama invites applications for two nine-month tenure track faculty appointments at the rank of assistant professor beginning in the 2023-2024 academic year.
Detailed Position Information Successful candidates will have a developing research or creative agenda in areas such as digital media, data journalism, media analytics, media management, media effects or other mass communication topic with the potential for external funding and collaborative work with colleagues in the department, the other three departments in the college, and/or the college’s Digital Media Center. Experience with and ability to teach foundational journalism courses (e.g., news writing, reporting) and/or upper-level professional courses (e.g., media management, media analytics, data journalism) is also desirable.
Minimum Qualifications 1. Doctorate in journalism, mass communication, or related field prior to the start date (August 15, 2023) 2. Clear research agenda with potential for external funding. 3. Record of teaching effectiveness, with experience in teaching journalism/mass communication courses.
Preferred Qualifications Preferred Qualifications will be considered after all minimum qualifications are met: 1. Record of refereed conference presentations and peer-reviewed publications in journalism and mass communication journals. 2. Professional journalism/media experience, especially in the areas of media management and data journalism.
