DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
POSITION SUMMARY
The Marketing Communications team at the University of California, Office of the President, is looking for a creative storyteller with expertise in video production and multimedia content.
In this position, you'll conceptualize, direct and create high-quality videos and social media content that build affinity for the University of California and support UC's strategic objectives. You'll act as the creative lead on video projects, guiding them from brainstorming to pre-production to final cut with a high degree of autonomy. You'll also form close partnerships with our creative and editorial teams to develop video content that delights and informs.
The successful candidate will have an expert command of multimedia production and the ability to deploy video as a powerful storytelling tool. We are looking for someone who demonstrates:
A capacity to lead and produce video projects with a high level of autonomy
An ability to tell complex stories in compelling, clear ways
A deep understanding of video's role in the current social media landscape and ability to guide video strategy on platforms like YouTube, Instagram Reels and TikTok.
Strong editorial instincts with a sharp eye for shareable story ideas and captivating soundbites
Your video and multimedia storytelling skills will support the broader team's efforts to raise awareness about the value and contributions of California's public research university system. This position works in the Marketing Communications Department, in the division of External Relations and Communications, and reports to the Director of Multimedia. Content creation - Lead, create and direct a variety of high-level, multimedia content that supports key university messages and showcases UC's positive impact on California and its people. This includes: promotional and documentary-style videos and scripts, social media content/videos, livestream events, website assets, written copy and media packages.
Determine optimal tone, visual and creative approach for video projects. Plan and optimize video content for social media channels and websites.
Collaborate with others in Marketing Communications and External Relations on the development and execution of multi-faceted content campaigns and communication plans. Coordinate and assign tasks to appropriate colleagues and direct outside vendors, as needed.

Required Qualifications
The Marketing Communications unit seeks a skilled video producer, who is a creative generator of story ideas and understands how to adapt multimedia content for a variety of audiences and platforms.
Experience leading and producing promotional, news, fundraising or documentary videos for an organization.
Hands-on experience with video production: lighting, camera equipment, audio recording
Comfortable researching and creating content on a wide range of topics, such as climate change, financial aid, and the impact of UC research and innovation.
Experience scriptwriting, storyboarding and communicating ideas with people who are unfamiliar with video production
Experience conducting video interviews, directing and working with on-screen talent
Proficiency creating graphics and motion graphics for video.
Digital strategy knowledge, including best practices for video content on social media.
Experience planning and coordinating video shoots and interviews
Thorough organizational skills and an ability to self-manage video projects with a high level of autonomy
Expertise in Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator
Unafraid to dive into new programs, equipment and social media platforms.
Proficiency in a Mac environment.
Strong commitment to equity, inclusion, and UC's principles of community.

5-8 years working in video production/communications preferred.

The University of California, Office of the President, is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
Pay Scale and budgeted salary range for this position is $116,000 - $131,000. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience
