The University of Southern California Libraries seek a highly motivated and creative Media fellow - Content Developercommitted to fostering civic discourse, democratic ideals, and a diverse and equitable public sphere. The Media Fellow will join a large international grant-funded project. The project will examine the impacts of misinformation and disinformation on democracy and promote critical data literacies to counter these impacts. The Media Fellow will work with a small USC-based research team, the Reclaim Project, to create compelling original content for social media that will foster dialogue and counter misinformation online. The team will merge creative media production with scholarly research on misinformation, online hate, and social networks. Working with researchers and students at USC and beyond, the Media Fellow will develop strategies and templates for the production and circulation of counter-media content. The ideal candidate will have excellent media production, writing, and time management skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability both to work independently and in a team setting. Experience creating and managing successful social media accounts on platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and/or TikTok are highly desirable. Most importantly, the Media Fellow will be guided by a strong vision of building a more just and equitable public sphere.
This position is a full-time, 12-month fixed term with renewal possibilities; the work hours may vary, including some evenings hours.

⢠Ability to creatively use a variety of platforms to build audience and drive campaigns

Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include a subset of the following:
⢠Collaborate with research team including scholars, students, artists, and others
⢠Help lead content creation and foster the strategic use of content to build awareness/engagement, and management of online community
⢠Develop media messaging to counter extremist recruitment online
⢠Effectively draft, proofread and edit content for social channels and media toolkits
⢠Assess the performance of messaging through reporting, analytics, and database management
⢠Learn best practices for non-profit/issue advocacy communications across digital channels
⢠Learn how to apply creative media within a range of mediums, from traditional, experiential, to digital and beyond
 ⢠Participate in ongoing team meetings with local and international research teams
 ⢠Perform administrative tasks when necessary

The hourly rate range for this position is $25.02-$37.95.
