The Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs (CCP) seeks a Communications Specialist to support its Knowledge SUCCESS (Strengthening Use, Capacity, Collaboration, Exchange, Synthesis, and Sharing) project. Knowledge SUCCESS is a global project funded by USAIDs Office of Population and Reproductive Health to support learning, and create opportunities for collaboration and knowledge exchange, within the family planning and reproductive health community.
The Communications Specialist is an integral role on the Knowledge SUCCESS team. They work closely with the Communications Team Lead to develop materials that enhance the visibility of Knowledge SUCCESS and generate demand for and understanding of knowledge management for family planning and reproductive health (FP/RH). The Communications Specialist works across the project to plan and implement communication activities for Knowledge SUCCESS products and events. They manage social media accounts and assist with graphic design needs. The ideal person for this position is a skilled writer and communicator who enjoys crafting compelling narratives through a variety of written and visual formats. This position is based in Baltimore, MD; remote work may be considered.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Identify stories and produce engaging and informative written, visual, and multimedia content in support of communications objectives, working independently and with regional counterparts in USAID priority countries.
- Prepare communications materials including reports, fact sheets, PowerPoint presentations, briefs, social media toolkits, and website copy.
- Contribute to the drafting and editing of regular reports on the program's activities (including monthly activities updates and semi-annual reports)
- Manage the projects YouTube and LinkedIn accounts.
- Create content for, and oversee dissemination of, email campaigns and newsletters.
- Actively participate in brainstorming and strategy sessions.
- Support event coordination and logistics.
- Ensure all products and promotional efforts comply with the project branding strategy.
- Maintain a calendar of conferences, world awareness days, technical meetings and other project-related events.
- Monitor media, blogs and relevant FP/RH websites on a regular basis for news and updates pertinent to the project and its audiences.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in related field.
- Two years related experience.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Outstanding writing, research, and editing skills.
- Previous experience in public affairs, digital journalism and media, non-profit communications, or marketing.
- Experience handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Basic French skills.
Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Ability to rapidly learn new topics and communicate sensitive topics with care and diplomacy.
- Experience with or strong interest in social media or graphic design.
- Experience with design software/programs (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud) and WordPress.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
