Pew Research Center is a nonpartisan, nonadvocacy fact tank that informs the public about the issues, attitudes and trends shaping the world. It does not take policy positions. The Center conducts public opinion polling, demographic research, computational social science research and other data-driven research. It studies politics and policy; news habits and media; the internet and technology; religion; race and ethnicity; international affairs; social, demographic and economic trends; science; research methodology and data science; and immigration and migration. Pew Research Center is a subsidiary of The Pew Charitable Trusts, its primary funder. The Center's work is carried out by a staff of about 180.
The Director of Strategic Implementation oversees all aspects of Pew Research Center's digital strategy, including website development, digital publications, content production, graphic design and managing a fully integrated digital dissemination plan that includes publications, multimedia, social media and events. The ideal candidate is curious, collaborative and detail-oriented with strong editorial judgment and an eye for leveraging Pew Research Center data and findings for various audiences. They will serve as the foremost technical resource for digital production and product development needs across the Center and oversee content through the daily production process. The Director of Strategic Implementation manages a team of designers, content producers, web producers and social media strategists. The Director of Strategic Implementation reports to the Vice President of Communications. They will also serve on the Center's management team as a Managing Director.

Oversee functional activities of the digital strategy teams, including budgeting, planning and staff development.

Oversee development of best-in-class publishing workflows and processes to support the Center's mission and goals.

Drive organizational processes and disciplines aimed at optimizing audience.

Engage audiences with data presentation and visualization to enhance the Center's direct-to-consumer capabilities.

Stay abreast of rapidly evolving media and technology tools and trends, and test new and innovative approaches to raising awareness and engagement from the public.

Ensure consistent approach to branding, working with communications and design staff to create consistent visual look and feel.

Lead efforts to cultivate new audiences and create an actionable plan to grow that base.

Collaborate with senior management, research and communication staffs to develop long- and short-term strategic direction for dissemination of the work of the Center across multiple digital platforms.

Work with staff to conceptualize and manage the development of new digital features from requirements phase through deployment. Produce high-quality user interface documents and wireframes. Collaborate with researchers, designers, editors and programmers.

Oversee vendor relationships for digital initiatives, including ongoing assessments of vendor performance. Work with relevant staff to select and manage consultants and vendors to ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget according to the Center's quality standards.

Stay up to date with emerging issues in digital publishing and information systems in order to make recommendations about future directions to pursue, participate in planning, assist in policy and procedures development, and identify consultants.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements

• Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with senior management, the Center's Board of Directors and staff.
Education and Experience

Minimum 15 years of relevant industry experience.

Strategic leadership experience in media, publishing, social science research, academia and/or nonprofit sector.

Experience in marketing digital content and building and retaining large online audiences.

An extensive record of collaboration/influence across a complex organization of multidisciplinary professionals.

Experience in building, mentoring and coaching a growing team of
digital publishing specialists.
FLSA Status: Exempt
Location
Pew Research Center staff may work virtually from remote locations up to four days in a standard work week. Staff are required to be present in the Center's Washington, D.C., office on at least one of two core days weekly (Tues., Wed.) and one Thursday a month for an all-staff day.
The starting salary for this position is based on compensation market data and candidate experience. The starting salary typically falls in the range of $150,000-$190,000 annually.
