This position is responsible for athletics news coverage and promotion, writing for print, web, and other communication channels, and managing the athletics social media channels. The SID works in the Athletics Department and reports directly to the athletics director but also works closely with the Office of Strategic Communications & Marketing to develop and execute communication and marketing strategies for the school. This position also will coach two seasons.
Key Responsibilities
Write and edit athletics news stories for the school’s various communications channels including the website, magazine, and electronic newsletters. Specific tasks include:
Bi-weekly news stories reporting on outcomes of athletics contests usually held on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Work with all coaches to collect scores and game summaries after each contest.
News stories reporting on alumni athletes’ achievements in college and beyond.
Feature stories promoting the athletics program
Maintain and update the athletics section of the website in consultation with the school’s associate director of digital communications.
Coordinate sports photography each term with the photographer hired by the school.
Team photos. Schedule team photos, posts the photos on SmugMug for parents and athletes, and print and distribute the photos to coaches and for other purposes as needed.
Action photography. Schedule the photographer and post the images from the photographer on SmugMug and in Portfolio, the Communications digital asset management system.
Oversee the production of athletics recruitment videos in consultation with the director of marketing, the multimedia specialist, and athletics director.
Oversee the process of submitting athletics results and other stories to the Hartford Courant and other media outlets as needed.
Manage the school’s athletics social media channels in consultation with the digital communications team.
Work with the Athletics Department to help manage use of Playsight and Hudl. Responsibilities will include training coaches how to use the various features of the service.
Oversee and coordinate the athletics awards event. Specific responsibilities include creating the slide show, gathering coaches’ speeches, and creating the program.
Organize and take photos for NLI and commitment ceremonies.
As needed, write, edit, and post non-athletics content, including news stories, webpage content, and multimedia features to the school website.
Coach and recruit in the interscholastic athletics and intramural programs, as assigned.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required.
Coaching and/or collegiate-level playing experience in multiple sports.
Excellent writing and editing skills; 1 to 3 years writing experience or demonstrated ability
Open to editing/constructive criticism
Strong project management skills
High level of integrity, creativity, and motivation; strong work ethic; attention to detail
Ability to work independently and with a team
Ability and willingness to work nights and weekends at various times throughout the year
Writing, marketing, communications experience, a plus.
Experience working in an independent school/university setting, a plus.
Experience with photography, videography, websites, social media, a plus.
