Job Description:
The Social Media Specialist will serve as a key member of our dynamic Mar/Comm team to tell the story of Curry College through multiple digital channels. Under the supervision of the Director of Digital Communications, the Social Media Specialist will manage and enhance the College's overall social media presence through digital communications used to drive recruitment and brand related activities as well as key College initiatives. This position will be responsible for storytelling and creating content through both written and visual means for our College digital channels. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: direct management of institutional social media channels and tools; audience (customer) service; collaborative consultation of other department's social media channels; generating on-brand web and social content, including writing news and student, faculty, and alumni profile stories, writing for social media, capturing and editing social media photos/videos and creating other multimedia assets. The Social Media Specialist will also be expected to work occasional evening and weekend hours in order to monitor social channels and/or provide coverage for College events when necessary.
Essential Functions:
1. Social Media and Digital Content Development, Coordination, and Implementation:
Proactively collaborate, create, and distribute engaging social media and digital content and campaigns on institutional social media channels and website to acquire new audiences, engage followers, increase the College's visibility, enhance brand, and disseminate relevant and useful information;
Create, develop, and publish social media content;
Work closely with the MarComm team on the creation and maintenance of content for curry.edu;
Cover a variety of events in the field, report, and capture photo and/or video assets to use for digital channel dissemination;
Execute the College's social media plan with a focus on constituent acquisition and engagement;
Research new tools to increase overall social media campaign effectiveness;
Develop, recommend, and enforce social media policies and guidelines;
Create, develop, and implement social media advertising and fundraising campaigns;
Monitor and participate in online conversations to nurture the Curry College brand and messaging in social media spaces;
Monitor brand reputation and escalate potential crisis issues to team leaders;
Implement techniques to drive user engagement and action;
Maintain a full understanding of social media topics including but not limited to higher education industry and our various target markets;
Generate reports with key metrics on social media campaign performance; review KPIs of each social media channel, perform statistical analysis, and produce monthly reports;
Monitor and benchmark peer and aspirant institutions' social media activity and results;
Manage institutional social media accounts, including but not limited to: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and more. Recommend and incorporate additional and new channels and tools as appropriate:
Create and manage institutional TikTok account;
Create and oversee Student Ambassador Social Media Team.
2. Collaboration with Internal and External Relations:
Engage with department social media channel owners across campus (e.g. Athletics, Academic Affairs, Admission, Alumni/Development, CE/Grad, and Student Affairs) and provide consultation on social media best practices to build audiences and increase engagement in those areas;
Present and promote plans and ideas to supervisor and appropriate colleagues and administrators on social media trends;
Act as a liaison between Curry marketing team and external digital vendor partners as it pertains to paid social media ads.
Additional Functions:
Offer supplemental insight and subject-matter expertise into creative components of projects;
Assist with implementing time-sensitive communications due to crisis communication needs and/or communicate school closings or class cancellations due to weather or other emerging situations;
Respect and maintain confidentiality, parameters of operation, professional protocols, and individual privacy;
Supervise interns and work-study students;
Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor or their designee.
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in social media marketing, communication, marketing, public relations, English, journalism, or related discipline.
Minimum of one to three years of experience managing professional (non-personal) social media landscape including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, Snapchat, Tiktok and proven ability to create and manage successful, integrated use of social media tools and demonstrated background in cultivating online communities.
Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
Must have experience creating and curating content.
Must have skills and experience with social media management and collaboration tools, audio/visual tools, and digital communication and design tools.
Experience using online monitoring and measurement platforms such as Sprout Social, Meltwater Buzz, Facebook Insights, YouTube Insights, Google Analytics, HootSuite, TweetDeck, and/or Social Mention.
Superior writing, editing and proofreading skills as well as the ability to communicate effectively.
A passion for social media is required. Must be able to communicate on social platforms in a consistent, on-brand voice.
Requires analytical skills with the ability to use data and metrics to guide decision making.
Ability to work independently and prioritize projects to meet deadlines as well as be part of a team in a fast-paced academic environment, while maintaining careful attention to detail and follow-through. A team spirit is essential.
Commitment to tracking current innovations in digital communications.
A valid unrestricted driver's license required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous work experience in a higher education environment.
Ability to accurately identify opportunities and threats using user-generated content.
