Position Summary
The Communication and Marketing Coordinator for the Performing Arts Department is a creative, self-directed individual responsible for developing and implementing marketing and communication strategies to promote the work of our department as both an academic unit and an arts producing organization. The ideal candidate will be passionate on utilizing and integrating contemporary media technologies to advance the departmentâ™s presence and impact on campus and in the community. This position requires candidate to interact with department faculty and staff, University Advancement, University Marketing and Communications, community and campus partners and to juggle multiple projects at once.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Develops, designs, and facilitates marketing and communications for the department.
Ensures all communications are working together in concert, such as weekly announcements, website news and events, digital signage, show publicity, etc;
Finds creative ways of reaching target audiences from ticket buyers, donors, internal WashU students and employees as well as prospective students;
Reviews data and analytics to help evaluate the effectiveness of marketing and communication strategies.
Manages the creation, design and production of print materials, such as the annual PAD Season Brochure, Production Playbills and show publicity materials, and other event related materials.
Creates and sustains an impactful online presence through social media, website and targeted email marketing.
Supervises student work study, Social Media Assistant.
Gathers information on current scholarly activities and programmatic initiatives for the department. Cultivates, writes, and disseminates stories across communication platforms for maximum impact.
Works with members of the department to coordinate communications and messaging. Continue to build a network with University partners and University communications staff to raise awareness of the Performing Arts Department and aid in cross-marketing effort to create higher visibility for the department.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
This position is a Monday-Friday position, working on the Danforth Campus of Washington University in St. Louis.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience.
Experience in an academic setting working with faculty, administrators and students.
Five or more years of marketing and communications experience.
Knowledge of the Performing Arts is strongly encouraged.
Excellent team and service orientation with proven oral and written communication skills.
High degree of attention to detail to ensure the delivery of events of the highest caliber.
Excellent problem-solving ability.
Capable of identifying and effectively utilizing available resources to drive high-quality outcomes.
Ability to work with and effectively tailor communications to people with a diversity of backgrounds, perspectives and needs.
Demonstrated experience in strategic communications and experience integrating the latest technologies to support communication objectives.
Experience in, or willingness to learn, broadcast email and list management tools.
Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite.
Storyteller with excellent writing and editing skills.
Proven experience in Social Media management.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to deal with changes in a positive, professional manner.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor degree and one year of relevant experience or high school diploma or equivalent high school certification and five years of experience.

Salary Range
$20.76 - $32.21 / HourlyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
