Michigan Photography, nationally recognized for providing outstanding professional photography services for the university community, the media and the general public (as well as the sole supplier of still photography to U-M athletics) is seeking an experienced photographer to join our award-winning staff. Michigan Photography is the photographic arm of the University of Michigan's Office of the Vice President for Communications, and provides a variety of photo services including portraiture, event coverage, athletics coverage as well as artistic and creative stock photography. This position reports to the Director of Michigan Photography.
Capture photographic images representing the full range of activities occurring on the campuses of the university, with these images being used for news, marketing and social media outlets among various other uses.
Create photographic portraits of a wide variety of individuals and groups of people, with the capability of properly lighting subjects in both indoor and outdoor settings.
Ability to capture peak sports action as well as sports features is crucial, as is the ability to work with long telephoto lenses in high-pressure athletic situations.
Ability to work remotely, often unsupervised, editing images immediately after assignments to satisfy a variety of client deadlines.
Provide excellent customer service from initial customer contact through delivery of finished product.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with team members across departments.
Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
The ability to perceive colors.
Ability to move, transport and set up equipment weighing 35 to 50 pounds and must be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time.
Occasional overnight travel outside of Michigan is required.
Must have a valid driver's license and personal vehicle.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent with at least three to five years of professional experience in digital photography; if you have more years of experience, we're happy to have you apply.
Competency with Apple computers, the Adobe Suite of editing software, and PhotoMechanic as well as Microsoft Office Suite, is required.
Experience using Nikon digital cameras and lenses along with Profoto lighting equipment is a plus.
You will be asked to work a varied schedule including some nights and weekends depending on client needs.
