Serves as primary leader of WOSU Public Medias News and Public Affairs Team.
Working with Director of Radio, sets overall strategy of WOSUs local news content.
Supervises WOSUs news editors, and reporters. Provides editorial oversight for WOSUs Morning Edition Host and All Things Considered Host.
Develops and manages story ideas and makes story assignments to news staff. Ensures story selection meets the philosophy and goals of the WOSU news strategy. Sets deadlines for stories. Monitors progress of reports to ensure news staff meets assigned deadlines.
Oversees and participates in the process of editing reports produced by the WOSU news staff. Responsible for ensuring the accuracy, balance, and fairness of WOSU news reports. Assists reporters in ensuring the stories contain elements of top-quality, in-depth public media news reports for radio and digital audiences.
Working with the Digital Director manages digital news products including on-line news stories, podcasts, etc. Monitors WOSU affiliated digital news and social media content to ensure accuracy, balance, and fairness.
Participates in fundraising and promotional activities, on-air and in the community.
Represents WOSU at regional and national news organizations The Ohio Newsroom, Ohio Public Radio, NPR, Public Media Journalists Association, others.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in journalism or communications or commensurate amount of experience.
At least 5 years of journalism experience.
Demonstrated ability to establish and implement a clear news strategy.
Demonstrated ability to generate enterprising story ideas, ensuring balance, fairness and accuracy.
Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and ensuring news content reflects the entire community.
Preferred Qualifications
Two years of news management experience.
Broadcast experience.
Public Media experience.
On-air hosting, anchoring or reporting experience.
