Job Summary
The College Photographer/Digital Asset Manager is the point-person for photography and video within the office of College Relations. A skilled camera operator and editor, the CP/DAS also ensures that the digital products of the department are archived and easily accessible for future use. A visible and valuable member of the college community, the CP/DAS will be welcomed into classrooms, labs, dining rooms and student houses to capture and share an inside look at the unique academic enterprise, individuals and community at Smith.
PRIMARY FUNCTION(S):
1. Photograph activities, people and events at the college in support of departmental projects and institutional objectives
2. Administer and manage the department's digital asset management system
3. Manage, coordinate and support the work of external vendors including freelance photographers, illustrators and video producers
4. Conceptualize and produce video content throughout the year in support of the college's strategic goals
Take appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participate in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.
Photography - 65%
Coordinate with College Relations departmental units to meet the growing demand for high-quality photography to use in a range of projects, including admissions materials, the Smith Alumnae Quarterly, news and departmental websites, general marketing collateral and social media channels.
The CP/DAS will provide and/or ensure coverage for major annual college events, including (but not limited to):
In addition to receiving assignments from College Relations colleagues, the CP/DAS will take initiative and seek out their own opportunities based on their understanding of institutional priorities, anticipated departmental needs and the annual editorial calendar. From formal portraits of students, faculty and staff to landscapes, the CP/DAS will document the college's rich and varied academic life, co-curricular activities and distinctive traditions to increase the inventory of up-to-date stock images of the campus, its facilities, students, faculty and staff as prescribed by the college's visual identity guidelines.
The CP/DAS will also:
Answer requests for photography from individuals and departments outside of College Relations as their schedule allows.
Identify and hire freelance photographers and video producers to call upon as needed.
Digital Asset Management - 20%
The Office of College Relations produces hundreds of photographs, video clips, illustrations, information graphics and publications each year. The CP/DAS is responsible for acquiring, gathering, cataloguing, archiving and making these materials available and easily accessible to colleagues within the department and across the institution as appropriate.
Video Production - 15%
Work closely with the content creation teams in College Relations to identify, conceptualize, develop, produce, shoot, edit and publish high-quality videos (short- and long-form) for use on the college's website and other key audience outlets, including social media.
The CP/DAS offers ideas and strategies for effectively using video to tell compelling stories; adapt others' ideas to create effective video content for a range of digital platforms and audiences.
The CP/DAS will also:
Adhere to established quality standards, ensuring that videos reflect Smith's visual branding, appropriate tone and overall messaging
Ensure Smith videos are accessible, captioned and approved by the department prior to publication and distribution
Other Functions

Minimum Qualifications (knowledge, skills, education, experience, certifications, licenses)
Preferred Qualifications
A skillful eye for photo composition and a keen understanding of the ways photography and video can engage audiences across platforms
Ability to effectively manage multiple projects at once and meet deadlines as expected
A can-do spirit and ability to be self-directed and take initiative
Willingness to work collaboratively with a range of constituents and content producers
Skills
Expertise with Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects; Final Cut Pro
Understanding of Digital asset management systems
