UCSF Public Affairs seeks a seasoned health care communicator and strong team player to join our team as a Senior Public Information Representative (SPIR) to promote the mission and work of UCSF Health at a time of significant expansion.
The SPIR will report to the Senior Director - Public Relations and will collaborate closely with the UCSF Health Marketing and Communications team to align media relations strategies and content with UCSF Health's growth strategy, priority service lines, affiliations and acquisitions, and national and local reputation.
The role will also work closely with the OC's Strategic Communications team to develop proactive and reactive materials that align with our strategic initiatives and priorities. This includes working closely with the executive directors of Public Affairs and of Strategic Communications, as well as with the Vice Chancellor of Communications, as needed, on sensitive communications.
Additional responsibilities include managing media inquiries, scheduling interviews and briefing leaders on media focus; developing communications plans with strategy, goals, and tactics; producing news releases, web stories, fact sheets, media pitches, talking points, social media, video scripts, etc.; providing ad hoc media training for spokespeople and counsel on media response; supporting the response to sensitive and/or complex institutional policies or practices; and staffing reporters at onsite media engagements.
This role requires external communications experience in a health care delivery setting. The successful candidate will have public relations experience in an academic medical center or hospital system, understand current business challenges and sensitivities in clinical care, and demonstrate knowledge of best practices in strategic and sensitive communications.
The role also requires strong writing skills, a collaborative spirit, and substantial experience with news media. The ability to identify and earn media placements for UCSF Health business leaders and to write on a variety of health issues is essential. Native-level language proficiency in Spanish or Chinese is preferred.
Please note that this is a HYBRID work role with an in-person requirement in San Francisco.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $94,400 - $201,800 (Annual Rate).
