East Stroudsburg University is hiring an Athletics Communications Assistant! Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, ESU’s proximity to New York City and Philadelphia provides convenient access to internships, careers and social activities. As the Athletics Communications Assistant, you will need to think creatively and be comfortable covering various Athletics developments through game day coverage, game day programs, news releases, and media relations. You will be an active member of the Athletics Team and will work closely with the Coordinator of Athletic Communications in the daily management of the athletics website, social media, and statistics collection. You will thrive in this role if you like combining your communication, public relations, or sports management background and marketing skillset while collaborating with various departments to promote and enhance the ESU Athletics image. To be successful in this role, you must be detail-oriented, have the proven ability to skillfully pivot between tasks, and possess excellent communication skills.
Your normal hours will be Monday to Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. You may have to flex your schedule from time to time based on the needs of the business to be a true Athletics Communications Assistant. This position requires travel up to 20% for events or activities dictated by the policy of ESU, PSAC, or the NCAA. When our team shows up for work, they are energized and motivated to succeed - all while being the most crucial piece to keeping the ESU Enrollment Services operations humming.
What Will I Do At ESU? (AKA Essential Duties)
Responsible for promoting and enhancing the image of East Stroudsburg University and ESU Athletics among the major stakeholders.
Working with the Coordinator of Athletics Communications in the day-to-day operation of the sports information office, including coverage of all 22 varsity sports. This includes game management as it applies to gathering and maintaining statistics, communications, and media relations.
Coordinating the layout, graphic design and production of all athletics publications, social media graphics, posters, game programs, schedule cards, ticket collateral and brochures in conjunction with the Coordinator of Athletics Communications.
Working with the Athletics Department and Office of University Relations staff to develop, maintain, and advance the athletic department’s brand identity with an emphasis on digital, mobile, and social media outreach.
Assisting the Coordinator of Athletics Communications with the management of ESU Athletics’ social media platforms.
Creating unique social media content with a focus on in-game and in-venue interaction with potential to integrate sponsored elements.
Assisting in production of audio and video webcasting strategy, including the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Network broadcasts, as assigned by the Coordinator of Athletics Communications.
Developing content for and maintaining content and visual aesthetics of ESU’s athletics website, esuwarriors.com, as instructed by the Coordinator of Athletics Communications.
Preparing news releases and feature stories for distribution to local news media and posting on the ESU athletics website as assigned by the Coordinator of Athletics Communications.
Responding to media requests for specific news articles, including information and photography requests in the absence of or as assigned by the Coordinator of Athletics Communications.
What We're Looking For (AKA Qualifications)
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations or marketing, sport management or a related field.
Technical requirements:
Adobe InDesign and Photoshop.
Proficiency with Stat-Crew and live stats.
Experience using SIDEARM (website content manager) platform is preferred.
Additional Requirements:
Strong written communications skills.
Professional experience executing social and digital media strategy.
Experience coordinating video marketing and/or webcasting efforts.
Knowledge on organization promotion.
Ability to compile/archive and maintain statistics.
Candidate must also exhibit exemplary customer relations skills and ability to work within tight deadlines.
Valid Drivers License.
Able to read, write, and comprehend English; able to follow verbal instructions.
