Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics, a Division I and Big Ten Conference member, is seeking to hire an Assistant Director of Strategic Communications. The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
Serve as the primary communications contact for the nationally-ranked men's soccer, men's gymnastics and women's lacrosse programs.
Facilitate social media for team accounts in line with department goals.
Produce yearbooks, news releases and feature stories.
Staff home events, and selected away events.
Supervise student assistants, statistical crews, and other support personnel at events.
Other duties as assigned.
Typical Education and Experience
Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations or a related field plus work-related experience in communications or public relations is preferred.
Skills and Qualifications of this position include:
Excellent communication and organizational skills are required.
Knowledge of NCAA rules and compliance is required.
Considerable initiative, creativity, and independence.
Experience supervising staff members and/or leadership experience within a communications department, preferably in a higher education and/or an athletically related environment is preferred.
Proficiency in InDesign, Photoshop, website content management systems, social media platforms, and Statcrew/NCAA Live Stats is preferred.
This position will require successful completion of standard background checks.
