Colorado Public Radio (CPR) is seeking a News Podcast Editor/Producer.
About the Position:
The News Podcast Editor/Producer will play a crucial part of our daily news operation by editing on-demand audio, including podcasts, documentaries and stories that will air on CPR News. You will be essential to expanding CPR coverage to a growing and critical audience segment. In this role, you will primarily edit and produce episodes of the daily news podcast along with other team members. You will also have the chance to work on longform audio projects. You will work across all services to ensure the most effective and impactful content is delivered, helping shape a new creative endeavor for CPR News and delivering critical local news across a variety of platforms.
This position will work odd hours: The standard working hours will be approximately 12-8pm on weekdays. Also, this is not a remote position. The position is based at CPR’s downtown office and is required to be in office during at least part of your day. The position is usually Monday - Friday, but weekend hours are possible.
About You:
We’re looking for an adaptable and reliable person, ignited by curiosity and interested in daily news. You have an understanding of tactical approaches to help guide and edit podcasts and other audio content that serves audiences of diverse backgrounds and interests. You should have a passion for producing stories that reflect what’s happening locally. You’re committed to inclusivity and belonging in guiding how you edit and provide feedback to others on audio projects.
Minimum Qualifications:
A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience with podcast or broadcast editing, mixing and scripting.
Experience as a reporter or working in a newsroom, including working on daily news,.
Demonstrated strong writing skills, particularly writing for listeners (rather than readers).
Experience generating story ideas that speak to varied, real, human experiences.
Experience earning trust and reporting on issues impacting underserved communities.
Experience with working collaboratively in a digital environment, meeting deadlines, and switching between tasks as necessary.
Experience working in an environment where priorities and roles will shift, sometimes on a daily basis.
A valid driver’s license and clean driving record is required as this role needs access to reliable transportation to respond with urgency to news events. Newsroom vehicles will sometimes be available for your use.
An interest in social media creation and the ability to build audiences through social media is preferred.
Education Equivalency:
High School or GED degree required. Relevant Associates or Bachelors degree may replace some of the years of experience required.
