Role Summary
Reporting to the Associate Commissioner for External Relations, the Assistant Director of Communications and Creative Services will work in collaboration with the Conference’s external relations team to generate exposure for the conference through traditional and new media relations efforts. The position will assist Conference staff in the ideation and execution of the WCC’s strategic plan and promote the West Coast Conference and its member institutions through all media platforms.
Primary Responsibilities
Promote the Conference and generate exposure and visibility by developing a content plan for coverage of assigned sports, including self-generated content for each of the Conference’s digital platforms.
Serve as the communications contact for women’s basketball, and other assigned sports.
Write and edit news releases, weekly notes and feature stories for assigned sports.
Establish working relationships with national media influencers to proactively promote the Conference and facilitate interview requests.
Work closely with the Conference’s linear and digital network partners to optimize opportunities for exposure on national platforms.
Develop messaging points for assigned sports.
Produce promotional materials to support coverage of sports and championship events.
Serve as media coordinator at select championship events and assist the championships team with assigned duties at events.
Manage the upkeep of record books for assigned sports.
Maintain up-to-date statistical and historical records, and closely monitor for milestone achievements, record breaking performances, trends and national rankings.
Manage the Conference’s awards platform, working closely with the membership in the nomination and voting process for assigned sports.
Promote individuals for national awards for assigned sports.
Assist with the management of the Conference’s website, updating schedules, standings, statistics and other content.
Assist with the coordination of media assets, including audio, video, and photo assets.
Develop graphic elements and assist with video projects, using the Adobe Creative Suite.
Create stakeholder documents including brochures, annual reports and newsletters.
Assist with written content and other assets for the digital program for the conference basketball championship.
Assist with the execution of the Conference's social media strategic plan.
Represent the WCC at events and institutional visits, assisting staff.
Support the marketing and fulfillment of agreements through the WCC’s multi-media rights partner, Van Wagner.
Additional Responsibilities
Ensure operations in areas of responsibility comply with NCAA and WCC policy.
Ensure Student-Athlete Experience is a priority in all Conference initiatives.
Other duties include Commissioner delegated projects, as assigned.
Membership relationships and outreach.
Travel and visibility on-campus.
Ensure annual calendaring and meeting of deadlines.
May participate in planning meetings and conference calls with host championship venues.
Execution of all Conference and NCAA-hosted championships including championship policy and procedures.

25 – 50% of travel

Hybrid with San Bruno, CA base.
Salary
$58,000 – $65,000, commensurate with experience.

Education and Experience
Minimum of five years of experience in a related field.
Bachelor’s degree required. Master's or advanced/professional degree(s) preferred.
Demonstrated proficiency in various technologies including Microsoft programs (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Creative Suite (e.g., Premiere, Photoshop and After Effects), NCAA Live Stats and other relevant software.
Ability to demonstrate professional competency by establishing and meeting deadlines, and balancing multiple responsibilities in a timely and high-quality fashion.
High level of initiative, creativity, and independence.
Effective personal and professional communication, both oral and written.
Working knowledge of intercollegiate athletics, the West Coast Conference, and its institutions’ programs is preferred.
