OVERVIEW
St. Johns Country Day School is seeking a creative and organized Communications Coordinator to support the School’s ever-evolving marketing and communications efforts. This position involves crafting internal and external content, managing digital media, and helping to tell the story of St. Johns across various platforms to enhance the school’s brand, engage current families, and attract prospective students. The ideal candidate will have strong writing skills, a collaborative attitude, and a passion for education.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Communications Coordinator will work closely with the Director of Communications and others to effectively fill needs across a variety of areas, including:
Content Creation & Management
Draft, edit, and publish high-quality content for newsletters, press releases, the School magazine, blog posts, website, and other communications;
Maintain effective communication with students, particularly Upper School;
Provide review and edit services for School faculty and staff;
Manage the School’s social media accounts by creating engaging posts, monitoring comments, and tracking analytics to optimize engagement;
Work with faculty and staff to identify and produce stories that showcase student achievements, School events, and community partnerships;
Design & Multimedia Production
Assist in creating visual assets, such as graphics, flyers, and presentations, to support marketing campaigns and events;
Capture photos and videos of school events for use across social media, website, and print materials;
Coordinate with vendors, such as printers and graphic designers, to ensure high-quality and timely production of marketing materials;
Website & Email Management
Maintain the School’s website by writing articles, updating news and event details, and other relevant content including video and photo;
Draft and schedule email campaigns to communicate with parents, alumni, and other community members;
Monitor and report on website and email analytics to guide strategy and measure impact;
Event Support
Assist in planning and promoting School events, including open houses, fundraising events, and community gatherings;
Provide onsite communications support, such as live social media updates, photography, videography, and logistics coordination;
Administrative Tasks
Help maintain an organized media archive of photos, videos, and other media content;
Track and compile analytics for all digital and print campaigns;
Support the Director of Communications in managing budgets, timelines, and communications plans;
QUALIFICATIONS
The marketing and communications department handles a wide range of constantly evolving projects. Flexibility, the ability to work with others, professionalism, attention to detail, and a desire to constantly learn and grow in the job are essential. Additionally, the following are required:
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, English, or a related field; Masters degree preferred;
1-3 years of experience in communications, marketing, social media, or a related role;
Skills
Strong writing and editing skills, with an ability to tailor content for different audiences; familiarity with Chicago Style a plus;
Proficiency in social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, etc.) and analytics tools;
Familiarity with the Google Workspace environment (Docs, Sheets, Drive, etc.);
Basic graphic design skills and familiarity with design software like Adobe Creative Suite or Canva;
Photo & video capture and editing skills;
Personal Attributes
Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills;
Ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines;
Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams outside of the role’s immediate scope to identify opportunities and meet and surpass goals;
Creative thinker with strong problem-solving abilities;
