The Stanford Center for Human and Planetary Health (HPH) is a new Center based at the Woods Institute for the Environment and the Doerr School of Sustainability, in partnership with the Center for Innovation in Global Health and the School of Medicine. It bridges the fields of human health and environmental sustainability to tackle complex global challenges. By fostering interdisciplinary research, education, and impact across four focus areas - climate and health, pollution and health, disease ecology in a changing world, and food systems, health and the environment - the Center seeks to train the next generation of leaders and create solutions that improve health and the planet. About the position
The Stanford Center for Human and Planetary Health seeks a full-time Program and Communications Coordinator to coordinate programmatic activities, assist with communications and outreach efforts, and organize events for the Center. This is a new position for the Center and offers an exciting and dynamic opportunity to help build the vibrant human and planetary health community and contribute significantly to its global impact.
This includes:
Assisting with the Center's outreach and communications efforts, including preparing a weekly newsletter that summarizes efforts in human and planetary health and maintaining the Center's website.
Organizing the Center's quarterly speaker series and other events that help to build community and inspire students.
Coordinating and scheduling the Center's team meetings and the Center's steering committee.
Tracking the Center's annual Monitoring and Evaluations activities to assess progress, impact, and opportunities for improvement.
Supporting HPH leadership in a variety of tasks including administration, calendaring, program coordination, communications, outreach, and event planning.
Reporting to the HPH Managing Director, this is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated and high-energy candidate with: an interest in external communications and outreach; administrative experience; event programming skills; a passion for working on human and planetary health topics; and a collaborative, adaptable approach to teamwork and partnership.
Specific responsibilities will include:
Organize the HPH Spotlight event series and annual convening. Coordinate speaker pipeline and speaker outreach, draft event blurbs and flyers, create RSVP forms, execute event marketing, and draft and disseminate post-event surveys.
Produce HPH weekly news, events, and opportunities digests. Track global trends in human and planetary health - and activities at Stanford - to compile a curated weekly newsletter which is distributed to over 1,000 people each Friday.
Maintain the HPH website, post news and publications, and ensure all content is updated and current.
Launch new HPH social media channels and produce, schedule, and post social medial assets (graphical and written).
Manage the HPH listserv and subscriber data.
Produce graphics, presentations, and reports. Design flyers for HPH courses and events. Lead event marketing efforts in partnership with the Woods Events team.
Recruit, train, and manage HPH student communications assistants.
Coordinate team and steering committee meetings, take meeting notes and capture action items.
Order food and reserve rooms for meetings.
Schedule meetings and candidate interviews, organize and distribute applications for review committees, etc.
Plan team events, e.g. holiday parties.
Research Stanford's impact against set metrics (e.g. # of publications, # of RSVPs for events, etc.), prepare a complete draft annual report.
Update and monitor progress towards goals in the HPH annual workplan. Flag any concerns to the HPH Managing Director.
Collect and report on social media, web, and newsletter metrics reflecting impact of HPH's communications activities.

To be successful in this position, you will need:
High school diploma and four years of administrative experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
Advanced computer skills and demonstrated experience with office software and email applications.
Demonstrated success in following through and completing projects.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and assign work to others.
Ability to take initiative and ownership of projects.
Ability to routinely and independently exercise sound judgment in making decisions.
In addition, our preferred qualifications include:
College degree in communications, public health, sustainability, environmental science, or another related interdisciplinary field.
Communications, event planning, marketing, and/or outreach work experience, ideally in an academic or mission-driven environment (e.g. NGO).
Experience maintaining a website.
Administrative and program coordination experience, ideally in a small and fast-paced team.
Strong analytical abilities.
Demonstrated experience working independently and as part of a team.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with individuals across different levels of the organization, including faculty, administrators, and students.
Design experience, ideally with Canva.

The expected pay range for this position is $39.46 to $44.30 per hour.
