Interns will have access to every aspect of how an athletic communications office operates in a Power-4 conference school and will leave the program fully prepared for the next step in their career with opportunities to take on sport responsibilities. The office is committed to ensuring that each intern receives valuable experience through a variety of special projects and day-to-day interaction with student-athletes, coaches, internal staff members and additional campus partners.
Essential Functions:
Work closely with all departments to explore, implement and integrate emerging technologies and ideas on social media.
Develop plans and assist in execution in concert with athletic communications staff members for offseason and in-season team accounts on all platforms.
read & share social media & website analytics with teaching from our social media manager.
Gain understanding with AP style, statcrew/NCAA Live Stats programs for keeping statistics at events, and Adobe Software.
Write releases and stories for GoDeacs.com that follow AP style and are engaging content for our ever-evolving audience.
Work with statcrew/NCAA Live Stats programs, which is used for research projects in office and is run at all athletic events.
Office projects will involve work with Adobe InDesign, Lightroom & Photoshop.
Serve internal departments (i.e. Communications, Marketing, Video, Ticketing, Boosters, Operations) and team support staff to develop and execute internal and external fan messages for various programs.
All interns will learn the goals and objectives of other departments while working on tasks that are assigned.
The goal of Athletic Communications work is to provide value to other departments, specific teams and the University as a whole. Interns will learn what these projects look like and how it advances the Universities brand.
Assist with media relations and event management.
Gain knowledge on aspects that go into a sport-by-sport home event within the realm of media relations and athletic communications.
Work with production of sport-specific media guides & record books.
Research projects such as these are annual items that need to be upkept for the longevity of the athletic communications department.
Maintain files of news clippings and photos pertaining to various sports events and projects relating to the intercollegiate athletics program.
Other Functions:
Perform related duties as assigned.
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Experience in utilizing the Adobe Creative Suite.
Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience in communications, journalism or related field.
Relevant experience in communications and social media.
Ability to work long hours including nights and weekends.
